Jo, have you tried desensitising Bill?

If you have a smart TV with USB then download a fireworks display from YouTube. Outside of fireworks season play it at random times with the sound muted and just go about your business as normal. Slowly, over days and weeks, turn the sound up bit by bit and be sure to give Bill a treat when he doesn't react to a bang or pop or crackle, and soothe him if he does.

Sis lives in a quiet dormitory village twix an Olde Worlde coaching inn and a community centre and both have displays on the weekend nearest 5th Nov taking it in turns to do Friday or Saturday. Chester, their black Labrador, was in pieces and they tried all the remedies you mentioned, and more, till M hit on the above idea. Ches was never truly comfortable but it did at least help him to function rather than being wrecked.

Last year a spray from Amazon worked quite well so I bought another this year but it’s had no effect whatsoever.

The daft thing is we’re pretty much surrounded by farms here and quite often hear loud gunshots when I walk him first thing - he doesn’t flinch!

Unfortunately a dog's hearing is many times more acute than ours and what to us might just be a bang to some of them it must sound like a nuke going off.... and just like us they all react differently.

Charlie isn't bothered by noises, at least he's asleep so doesn't move, so assuming he isn't bothered!

The two dogs OTOH....always have to spend a few days at the farm, which although only a few miles away, doesn't seem to be so bad re the noises. So that's where they are atm.

A strange question, I know, but are our animals more affected than they once were?

When I was young none, or not many, of them seemed too bothered and we were throwing bangers about and letting rockets off in the streets for weeks before bonfire night. Or is it that today's fireworks are so much louder.... even garden ones?

Fireworks are much louder, and make more vibration.

Just a thought, can you get cannabis oil over there? Readily available here and a lot of friends use it on their animals.
