Confused over Tier regulations?

If you are unsure what the Tiers mean for you, here's a simple guide:

Tier 1 - Pints
Tier 2 - Pints with Chips
Tier 3 - No Pints



We (Dorset) are in Tier 2. The local councillors are absolutely spitting over it. Cornwall and the Scilly Isles (Tier 1) are currently registering 62.4 cases per 100,000 folk. The Isle of Wight (Tier 1) is showing 70.5 cases per 100,000. Next? It's Dorset with 80.8 cases - but we have been put into Tier 2. I suspect this is because our cases are rising of late, not falling, and also that we don't have much in the way of specialist hospital units in the area. But then again, neither does Cornwall, reputedly ....

What Tier are you in - and do you the allocation is right?

All of Surrey is Tier 2 - I can cope with that. Although Woking BC is annoyed because apparently their numbers aren't too bad.

Ossie, where do you find the numbers per 100,000 - I'd be curious to see just what Woking and Guildford are x

We’re Tier 3, like the rest of the West Midlands. While South Staffs is pretty rural it borders Walsall and Wolverhampton, plus the area which currently looks to have the highest rate is where two prisons and a young offenders facility are situated and according to a local councillor all have had high rates of infection amongst inmates.
The hospitals we use here are in Walsall, Wolverhampton and Stoke. All places which have had a high rate of infection and hospital admissions so that means that there’s a limited number of empty beds available.

Ossie, where do you find the numbers per 100,000 - I'd be curious to see just what Woking and Guildford are x

Woking is 147 and going down, Guildford is 122 and steady, the England average is 165, Gloucester is 281 and rising, Scarborough is 280 and falling, Leeds is 266 and falling, Cannock 243 and falling, Gosport 141 and falling slightly (just to pick a few locations of VVers)

We are in three. My brother in Selby (circa 20 miles away) is in two.
On the one hand I'm not too bothered, we will just keep on as we have been. Hand washing, distancing, mask wearing.
But some of the local businesses around here imo won't reopen and that does bother me.

I don't pay any attention to the details of the tiers. To me it's mostly a load of rubbish based on guesswork and dodgy science and I have no faith in the "experts" or the politicians either. One lot have been revealed as anything but experts and the others as out and out liars, so sod them.

Unless 100% of a population is tested then the number of cases in any area is an academic best guess. The numbers to look at are those for hospital admissions and deaths, and the government website already mentioned by Jo is the best place to go for them.

Leeds, circa 800,000 pop, currently has 6 Covid deaths per day and 36 hospital admissions. Those are real figures. According to the positive cases guesstimate I would have to bump into 3,361 people (140 every hour of the day) to meet just one with Covid. Leeds is in T3 - go figure.

I have given up on what the experts 'think' and what politicians say and just go with the factual numbers. Like Cromwell I stick to hand washing, mask wearing and distancing and only go shopping in the quiet periods.

It is a worry for the small businesses in Tier 3, especially in hospitality

We're in 2, but I think we've been "lucky" as the stats for Gloucester are the highest in the county - over 200 per 100 000 - much higher than Cheltenham or Stroud, and 4X higher than those of Cotswold

We'll continue to be very careful.

This week hull had the highest rate in the country but it's going down a bit now but we are lumped with hull
