Medsec, that sounds very sensible, and I hope you have a lovely day. My son will only be here from late morning until teatime.

Me too!
I don't take too much notice tbh, I don't think it's a good thing to get too het up.
We'll just keep on doing the sensible things. Our son wants to see us but is wary of it as he travels around schools. But we want to see him, end of. We see our daughter and grand daughter regularly.

They should never have told the great British public to go ahead with Xmas.

Those that would have big get togetherness will do it wether they are allowed to or not.

The highest category of positive cases at the moment are 10 to 19 year olds, who also show few symptoms. Put them together with their grandparents who have been shielding for months and their next family get togetherness could be funerals.

Its only two days of the year. In the big scheme of things we can just do it different this year. It’ll just be like all the uni students going out across the UK all over again but this time with more vulnerable groups.

I don’t know why it keeps putting get togetherness instead of get togethers!!!

I can understand some people's frustration.

This Christmas we should have had the largest gathering of our family we have had in 15 years. Some will not make Christmas together again for a decade or more and Mrs S may not even be with us then.

Instead we are stuck with a Zoom conference instead of a huge family Christmas at home.

Mrs S has been alternately furious and despondent over the last few months. I've taken the entire flack for it.

The only silver lining in this cloud is that we got to see almost all of them this summer, although not altogether. But Christmas is a very special time and to have so much of the family together was something she was really looking forward to.

I blame the virus and the Chinese, for conspiring to ensure it hit the entire world before the fessed up. Nobody else.

News out today is that the R number for England is between 1.1 - 1.2, and that is higher than after November's lockdown when it was 0.8 - 1.0. It is very unlikely to drop in the four days leading up to the Christmas free-for-all.

We are now probably past the point where anything else can be done. Most people will have already made their plans and come Hell or High Water nothing will stop them seeing things through.

Jan - Feb lockdown incoming.
