My father was Denis Mary. His brother was Roger which was a family name - he had a bad kidney problem and when his first child was born, a girl, they named her Roger to keep the name going in case he didn’t have more children. She was always called Robin and when her brother was born a couple of years later, he was named Roger. My uncle did die very young. I never knew this until a family get together in the mid-2000s which I had for another Roger Greene who was visiting from Australia. I had put together a family tree, and Robin brought along her birth certificate to show us.

A Welsh mate in the RAF was called Gwynfor Pugh, this became Gwinny the Poo - Pooh bear and all that.

One day he lost it and let us know exactly what he would do to anyone ever calling him Gwinny again. We settled on GP and that is how he was forever known.
