Next election is 2022. Hence the fudge on Fishing.
But this is not popular
The primary reason for the delay seems to be the cumbersome, over-centralised nature of France's health bureaucracy. A 45-page dossier of instructions issued by the ministry in Paris had to be read and understood by staff at old people's homes.
Plus this.
Each recipient then had to give informed consent in a consultation with a doctor, held no less than five days before injection. The lengthy procedure is in theory to save lives - those of patients who might have an adverse reaction. But as the critics have been arguing, delay in inoculating the population is also costing lives.
I said, back last year, that the UK joining the EU vaccination scheme was stupid as we would be caught up in their incompetence; as if we don't have enough of our own.
Now the EU doesn't have enough vaccine, orders which should have been made were not, supply is poor and approvals for additional vaccines grinds on ever more slowly. The EU still only has ONE vaccine approved with poor supply, orders only for 300m doses for 450m people and chaotic delivery.
India has approved the O/A vaccine (Friday) and has over 50m doses ready to go with a final count of 1.4bn doses to be made by the Serum Institute of India and distributed locally.
I'm watching elections right now. Anyone, like the current Conservatives, who were voted in just before this began, must be thanking their lucky stars. Because anyone currently in government is going to get a right shellacking if they have to go to the polls in the next 2 years. Trump was only the first, he most certainly won't be the last.
