Blood clots and the AZ vaccine

So we now know that around 30 people out of 18m have been diagnosed with blood clots after the AZ vaccine and 7 have died.

All they know right now is that all these people had low platelet counts. Which explains why I was under a MRI machine within 15 minutes of the doctor understanding that I had lost peripheral vision in my right eye. I am on platelet suppressants.

The problem is that nobody is having their blood tested before having the vaccine so they just don't know if the vaccine causes it or not.

That having been said, 30 out of 18m is less than the normal occurrence of blood clots in the population.

What I did find interesting is that the flu jab has a 1 in 1 million chance of giving you Guillain-Barre syndrome. Or put another way, 18 people with this rather nasty side effect. That was not exactly publicised.

I guess this will rumble on for a while.

I was reading and asking much the same things.

They know the incidence of blood clots in the general population from before the vaccine because they are treating them. I know because I have DVT and am on Apixaban to thin my blood. These figures do not seem to be far outside the norm, if at all.

It did concern me so I asked my GP for advice and after a quick check of my medical history it was a very definite "Get the jab". If people are worried then they should ask, it only takes seconds.

I am getting my second dose next week (just over seven weeks) then it will be a wait to see if the booster idea comes to fruition. I think it might happen for the most vulnerable for the next few years at least.

I'm on Apixabam too WM. From what I read these figures are below the norm.

There have been two cases of blood clots with Pfizer out of 10m. But given that the two vaccines have been given to differing age groups, this could have something to do with it.

I know that, in Germany, their cases are all young and middle aged women and they seem to have drawn a link with the pill. So they are blocking it for men of the same age too.

Humans have been getting blood clots since we evolved, it's part of the life cycle. It is also 'pot luck' some get them, some don't, regardless of lifestyle.

However, the scare story fits the narrative that the vaccine was rushed and is therefore dangerous. I see it mentioned so many times.

Yes, it can take 5, 7 or even 10 years in normal times to get a vaccine approved. That is very often down to funding, from private investors, and the recruitment of volunteers. With O / AZ we threw money and the kitchen sink at it from the off, and recruited from all over the globe, especially S. Africa, Brazil, India, N. America and a few other places, not just the UK. The trials were to order and checked, and so was the official approval. All we did was act in an emergency and compressed the time frame.

My eldest had a DVT several years, unexplained cause, and is on thinners. He was advised to take the AZ jab, and has had no problems. As already pointed out here, there have been no more occurrences of clots post vaccination than would be normally expected in the general population
