We are turning into a puritanical society imo. A lifetime of having a finger wagged in your face.

The concern is that it goes from finger wagging to laws.

Finger wagging I can deal with, simply ignore. Laws are almost impossible to overturn so we should not go there.

Just imagine if the government had codified the cholesterol studies of the 50's into law. Only to find, when examined by computer, that the conclusions were both incorrect and even dangerous.

I am trying to eat sensible. I have stopped buing prepacked meals as I do not like them. Most are oriental with funny flavours.
Last night I had a small chicken brast with cauliflower and parsley sauce.
For drinks during the day I have diluted lime cordial. The nurse wants mt to get my blood/suger level down. I am a chocoholic but I am resisting the urge,

I would rathe starve than buy a big Mac.

A Big Mac and French Fries taken with a shaker of salt and a dip (ketchup, mayo, brown sauce) comes in at roughly 50% of an adult's daily recommendations for calories, fat, salt and carbs. Add in a drink, especially a milk shake, and a sweet 'treat' and you are done for.

The whole lot can be wolfed down in fifteen minutes leaving you 15 hours and 45 mins to eke out the rest of your food. We are all ever so good at doing that, aren't we?

Supersizeme is a very interesting documentary for anyone wanting to understand the impact of sugar and carbs on the body. Also the impact of sugar, carbs, fat and salt all taken at the same time.

Not only that, the documentary clearly exposes that fact that this level of sugar is addictive and displays addiction like symptoms.

At 1h and 7 minutes the doctor, who was running tests, basically stated that he was damaging his liver. This is a doctor who completely underestimated the changes that this test would do.

The BBC ran a similar programme the other night.

Dr Chris van Tuliken put himself on a fast food diet for a month - no supersize, just regular. He had various tests done before, during, at the end and much after.

He put on weight, lots of it - about 1kg per week. He was always hungry, something to do with the foods being calorie dense but without volume. He was persuaded to eat some things more than others due to a phenomenon known as the "bliss point" - look, taste, mouth feel and the balance of sweet / sour / salty and hot. It is the food industry's holy grail and they work hard to achieve it.

A month later and after a lot of hard work he was back to normal, apart from one thing.....

During the month MRI scans showed that he was creating new neural pathways between his conscious and areas of the brain known to be associated with addictions and pleasure. They remained with him after the time and according to the neurologist could be with him for life. These were created purely by the types of food he was eating.....a snowball effect, and we feed this to our children!
