Meanwhile we have a new entrant in the Screaming hysteria cup for 2021.
Dr Lisa Spencer has said "There are a few hotspots around the UK. These are areas where the variant first identified in India seem to be causing a majority of the infections, spreading quickly. These areas of the country represent mini-Covid volcanoes, that's the problem.

"If we don't handle these volcanoes carefully they could explode and send a massive gas plume across much more of the UK."

Hotspots. Covid Volcanoes. Explode. Massive gas plume.

How many death were announced yesterday? One.
How many today? None.

Yet still we get this relentless fear mongering, screaming capitalised headlines and gloom and doom predictions.

Apparently Bradford and Kirklees are two of these volcanoes.
What a shock. They have a large Asian population who have refused vaccination and who trot off to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh on a regular basis. And because of these selfish people we are supposed to lock down again?

I wish Bradford WAS a volcano, and I wish it would bloody erupt, too.

Correct, they are where the surge testing is, so why have we not shut them down? PC is why not. The rest is hyperbole, but we all know that.

Bradford has a dual Pakistan / Bangladesh consulate for the issuing of travel papers. I know because I used it to get into Islamabad / Rawalpindi for work. The queues are long, shall we say. I imagine that a lot of the families of those travelling from the North for the Eid, Kumbh Mela and wedding parties used it, what?

Best I keep quiet now....

Ah but you see it "could" still happen.... Could being the operative word. Not will, not might, not probably, but "could".

The cases dropped again today but it was also a BH, so we'll have to wait till Thursday or Friday to get a true read. However I expect a drop again. The harder they test, the faster they will run out of cases if it truly is a bubble.

After 2 weeks of the "oh my god the Indian variant is going mad" (sorry Delta strain, can't mention the 1.4bn minority now can we) , there are 9 more people on the serious/critical list than when it started.

Granted the number of active cases is still growing but the vast majority are under 25 and not in danger.

It did raise a wry smile when the UK stuck Portugal on the Amber list for "variant risk" like France ang Germany did to the UK.

That being said, France has a target of opening up to the rest of the world on June 9th and that includes vaccinated people from the UK. It is also the date the curfew moves out to 11pm and indoor dining resumes.

Well, well.
Now it looks like June 21st will be cancelled.
Our weasel of a Health Minster Mr Hancock is making noises about putting it back until July 5th.
One last push?
Again?
I wonder what effect this behaviour is having on the mental health of vulnerable people? To be given hope and then at the last minute have that hope snatched away?
Not to mention the cost in terms of delayed treatment for cancer, heart attacks etc.

June 21st was only ever the "earliest" date.... and to be driven by the data, so there is a get-out clause.

The problem now is with the veracity of those data.

Surge testing has been upped in the areas of concern so it is doing two things. The first is that it is finding more cases - more tests = more cases. Secondly it is finding more Indian variants. Well of course it is. The areas of concern where the surge testing is being done are those where the Indian (Pakistan / Bangladeshi) travellers live.

It's a case of 2 + 2 = 5.

Does it all translate to England or the UK as a whole?

I have looked long and hard and cannot find the evidence that the experts and media are presenting.

It is not there WM. Thousands more cases almost no additional hospitalisations.

The vaccine's work.

Unfortunately for you two you both suffer from being honest and logical.
There are some in the ranks of government and their advisers who are neither.
