John phoned at lunchtime, worrying.
They were due to do a charity bike ride this coming weekend, which was originally arranged for last year, him and a load of people from work plus people from a company they use to manufacturer what they design.
They were going to cycle from Lichfield to the Welsh coast and had booked 12 rooms in a hotel for when they arrived in Aberdovey. They’d paid the deposit 18 months ago and carried it over to this year but decided a month ago that they wouldn’t be able to do it so tried to cancel.
The hotel phone wasn’t being answered and emails were bouncing back. They checked the hotel’s Facebook page and the last message posted was last December saying that they were going to have to close until restrictions eased, that was followed by loads of recent messages posted by people trying and failing to make contact.
They assumed that the hotel had gone out of business but this morning they received an email confirming the rooms for this weekend.
John was worrying because he’d paid the deposit using our debit card so that was the card they had on file, and further digging found reviews posted in the last few days for recent stays so it did actually appear to be open.
He and his colleague have been taking it in turns to call all morning with no answer, they’ve also emailed but the emails have bounced and they’d got nowhere.
Within 5 minutes I’d found a number for the brewery who own the hotel, I texted it to him and he called and had a cancellation email within minutes.
I do have my uses....
