We can get fish @ chips for £6 in a pub here. If we want to use a chip shop we can an seniors portion for £3.80 and it's a bit portion

A good breakfast at Morrison's is about a fiver and my mate Andy used to take the kids there for a treat when he had them over for the weekend from the ex. Anything above that is a rip-off, imo.

Nadine and I met up with a friend for breakfast at a garden centre yesterday - 3x breakfast and 4x coffee came to £45. Yes, friend and I had a large breakfast and Nadine had a regular but still - it was quite steep

As a comparative, on Monday I met up with two ex work colleagues after work. Picnic in the park just outside the office. We got plenty for us to nibble on plus enough to drink and it came to £10 per person and we had a much nicer time outside in the sunshine that we would have in a pub.

Prices have gone up, but then can you really blame them. Food costs have gone up, they need to catch up on a year of no income etc....

I've just had a look at the menus for our local "posh pub-restaurant", MM, and I'd say the average cost for 3 x mains, desserts, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks, i.e. nothing special like sirloin steak, would be around £72.

The last time we went, must be nearly 2 years ago now pre-Covid, I remember I got a bill of over £80 there for 4 covers, which was a bit of an eye-opener at the time.
It's a lovely pub, but we simply couldn't afford to go on a regular basis.

We live on Grumpy's pension, which hasn't gone up enough for us to pay anything like that.

Must admit, the bank balance looks pretty good, as we only go out maybe once a week, down to the bar and not been out for a meal for a year

Being a not too bad a cook, I do get rather critical in restaurants anyway, so it had better be good, when we do go out

It started out as a street food cafe and though it has evolved it still has that 'feel' to it, especially the set menus. I am a BIG fan of Gaeng Pa "Jungle Curry".

Yes, that's interesting, MM, the Windhover's prices appear around £1 a plate more than our Crown at Marnhull.
What strikes me though, as a basic rule of thumb, is that a mains dish that you'd have expected to be £9.95 before Covid is now around £13.50 .....
I had a peek at the Windhover on Google Streetview - it looks a very pleasant eatery on a sunny day!
