Oh good, another boost for the legal personal claims industry as the motorist will become defacto to blame for every accident involving a pedestrian or cyclist. Expect insurance premiums to rocket.

The sooner we get rid of this bl**dy Government the better.

It's the same press release other places are carrying.

No analysis. No mention of pedestrians with earphones in tapping at their screen totally oblivious to the world around them. No mention of cyclists ignoring the rules of the road or being on pavements. No mention of electric scooters. It's the same old "anyone in a powered vehicle is to blame".

Another example of the "something must be done" school of modern day thinking.

Every plan for future transport highlights cycling, walking and public transport.
The only time that private cars are mentioned is in a negative context.
What does that tell us?

They want your money but don't want to give you "service" for your tax £. I have said for a long time that we need to "send a message" to the government so they can see the real implications of their policies. 3 months should do it. SORN the second car, put up with the hassle, overwhelm public transport, stick your fingers up to the government then pay the tax again and carry on with your lives. Secure in the knowledge that the government just learned a message about how the people can screw their budget and their treasury if they don't start listening.

There are issues, but it is never seen with a clear head.

Cyclists in London get killed because they cycle up the side of a lorry, clearly indicating left, inside the view of the mirrors so the driver does not know they are there, then wind up under the wheels when the lorry turns. Yet the driver ALWAYS gets the blame in the press.

Mind you cyclists often jump lights and run into pedestrians too. The recent case of jailing the cyclist who killed a pedestrian is true justice.

That also being said I was constantly nearly walking out in front of cycles in London because I wasn't looking for them. They were pretty damned annoyed with me and had every right to be so when I was on a red light. It took me about 9 months to really be aware of cyclists.

These kinds of changes never really produce what they say on the tin and almost always wind up causing more problems than they solve.

This week while out in the car, two seperate incidents where pedestrians have steppout to cross the road without looking.
One was using a mobile phone. If I had been speeding there could have been two serious accidents. The incidents were not at controlled crossings, but on dual
carraigeways

As a careful pedestrian, who never uses her phone whilst walking, those who do so terrify me. How can you be safe, watching a screen with earplugs in?  I see it all the time...... :?
