EVs: a world beating scam.

So bloody good they need whole life cycle subsidies paid for by us all.

A huge subsidy to buy one, another for a home charger, no VED even though they are more damaging to the physical environment (roads) than the equivalent ICE. Subsidies to local councils to build on-street charge points (60% of households do not have off-street parking, as per the article), similar bribes for workplace chargers. These will need to go on for many years yet, and we will all pay, car owner or no car owner: regardless.

Let's not mentioned the expensive (subsidised) problematic disposal / recycling of the batteries or that electricity prices for all will rise to recoup the loss of fuel duties.

All that is needed is to promote that they have no tail-pipe emissions - job done. Except that in their total life cycle they are not that much better on CO2 than a "normal" car - about 50gCO2/km per 100km, sometimes less.

I will not be getting into a lamp-post or bollard fight to charge up (they will happen) because I will never own an EV. My next car will be a small diesel and it will see me out my end of days.

Current non hybrid CO2 emissions are around 130g CO2 per km driven, not 50.

The worst case for electric, in the modern world, is Poland at around 130g fully on coal.

This action is required because the consequences of uncontrolled continuing CO2 emissions are far greater than anything any amount of EV's can cause.

Also EV emissions depend on the grid. So for Scotland they are 9g CO2 per km.

I have very little tolerance for being seen to do something as opposed to doing something which needs to be done.

In the case of EV, this needs to be done.

Well done for missing the "total life cycle" bit as well as the other "negatives". Not unusual.

The tactic is typical of the hype and over promotion by their disciples to the exclusion of all other partial solutions, therefore your intolerance means nothing to many of us.

I have zero interest in "total lifecycle" as defined by FF vehicles.

EV's, when normal use, will provide low carbon and long life vehicles which will reduce carbon emissions as we decarbonise the grid.

I've been hearing all these stories for decades now. The only result of them is a continuing a creation of the growth of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Either the world starts going on a carbon emissions diet or the human world ceases to exist.

Today there is no time sooner than RTFHN to start doing it. Even 2020 is ridiculously too late to start, 2030 is borderline insanity. 2040, as France ang Germany want to do is suicide.

I don't know how much more forcefully to say it.

As predicted - it doesn't fit the agenda so dis it.

If we listen to you fanboys and girls we would think that batteries and electric motors are some modern magic technology that will save us. They are not, they are from the early 1800s. In the early years of the 20th century, in 1905 to 1912, electric vehicles were in the majority in cities, they failed because they were not the answer.

They were popular because their owners were the rich, but their practicalities for the masses were limited; nothing has changed.

EVs will work for the better off in the cities, but not for the poorer inside or outside of them. They are useless in the pampas, steppes, jungles, savannahs and farmlands, even the Dales and Highlands, but never mind. They are great for you to drive 500 metres to pick up your takeaway chicken tikka or pizza. All the better if they are driverless so that you can sit on your fat arses saving a few precious minutes doing sod all.

Also try CPB-7480 PDF by gov.co.uk as well for the life-cycle CO2 figures for EV v ICE. They are your mates, after all.

Talk about misdirection.

Modern EV's all have a range over 200 miles. Not the compliance cars or toys we have seen before but serious vehicles for consumers. This is not a vehicle which is good to drive a few miles to get your milk and paper. This is a serious commuting device.

As for "They are useless in the pampas, steppes, jungles, savannahs and farmlands", that is another misdirection. Those vehicles are a tiny and insignificant proportion of the problem. The vast majority of the problem is in well supported western countries or 1st world asia where these vehicles can be consumed and used to reduce emissions.

Saying that 90% of the problem can't be solved because the solution for 90% of the problem doesn't suit 2% of the problem is disingenuous at best.

I keep saying this and I will Keep saying this. The modern EV vehicles of the 2020's are fit for purpose to reduce 1st world vehicle emissions.
