Here's another one. A lady who works part-time in the local shop: The family was awarded a house when her husband left the Army through ill health after 18 years service. At the time they had an 11 yr-old boy and an 8 yr-old girl, so the legal requirement was for a three bedroomed property, and that is what they got.

Years down the line he gets cancer and dies. The son has moved away, but the daughter is still in full-time education, so she applies for a smaller place to cut costs. She was not a priority so nothing happened, and she is still on that same waiting list today.

Her daughter is now married with children and a house of her own. So, the woman is in a three bed property she does not want or need. She gets some HB because her p-t work does not pay a living wage. She is in her late 50s and never learned to drive. Her chances of getting full time work or work on a living wage are zero, zilch, nada, sfa. She is worried sick about what will happen as she has two unnecessary bedrooms, but through no fault of her own.

The Universal benefit in October will be an absolute shambles, instead of rent now going to landlords and housing ass direct it will go the the claiment so they hit the benefit caps, they then have to pay their own rent from it, the estate behind me has druggies and drunks on and they will get that cash in their hands and immediatly think whoppie doo we have loadsa cash and they will spend it with no thought of the rent, so they will get behind with rent, the councils and housing ass wont have money for repairs for the decent tennanats and then it will cost the councils thousands to take the tenants to court and evict them, they will then move into private rented where rents are higher and be claiming more housing benefit!

This is so true.
It's also obvious - of course feckless people are going to blow the rent money, that's what feckless people do! Why can't the people behind this scheme see that?
Unless they want to get them out of HA properties?

By getting them out of HA properties it will cost more in housing benefit in the long run as they will go into private, then they wont pay the rent again get evicted etc etc, I can see crime going up because of all this as some will steal to get the money to pay the rent, the only good thing is that maybe if they do get evicted a noce family will get the house!

We have regional/local ones for councils on May 2nd Weka, and the polls suggest that the Tories will get a good thrashing. The General Election is due in 2015 unless there is a no confidence vote in the present government.
