Yes I know and I'm in favour of that too. But the big boys of the industry are not. On one hand the sheer volume of small generators creates real maintenance headaches and on the other nobody wants to lose control to community projects. So they lean on the government to centralise and there is simply not enough large area water for those kinds of projects.

So they go wind and solar.

Wind and solar have their place and will be incredibly important. But small scale hydro could have provided a really useful backstop. Which his why it has not happened, because it dilutes power.

Now a really useful adaptation of the perendev motor would be something to strive for. If only I had time....

On my first tour with RAFG (1973) I took my mum to Remich on the Mosel. We were in the Pension and I noticed these frames and wheels by the river. The owner told us that they were water pumps and showed us round. The Mosel valley is steep so there was a tank up the hill. The pump filled the tank then in the evening it released the water through a garden hose type system to the vines. Low tech and perfect - no electricity.

Perendev, oh please! It is a "theoretical" perpetual motion motor, impossible though that is, and it produces no power. After a short amount of time such a motor will stop moving and assume equilibrium.- it will stop. Physics 101.

There are methods from the past that we know do work, but we want to be so 'modern' and 'technological' that we ignore the. We are mugs.

Yes Perendev was partly TIC....

It is not a perpetual motion machine because it reduces the magnetic capacity of the magnets as it turns. About 400 years with Neodymium magnets but, still, not perpetual motion.

Power? That's the issue and nobody has an answer.

There is something I came across today, it is an outgrowth of heat pumps which produces power by sucking in cold water from around 1,000 feet below sea level and uses the heat differential of 20c or more to generate power. Interesting concept and some demo projects have been done. However it is going nowhere right now. I suspect it would be massively more effective by providing a multiplier to solar or wind or both together.

Lots of avenues we haven't even looked at yet.

Let's talk gas.

Prices have risen 250% since January - with a 70% rise since August. Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) also reported that in 2020, 60% of the UK's natural gas supply was imported.

Those are frightening figures. Will fracking be invited back to the table?

The irony is that the food and drinks industries are reporting a lack of CO2 because fertiliser factories have temporarily shut down due to the price hikes. Processing of poultry and pork are worst affected.

50% of our electricity comes from gas so its price is also likely to rise - a double whammy.

Experts warn that high gas and high electricity prices will be sustained for the next three to four months, adding that it was difficult to see what the government could do about it.

Renationalise everything?

Renationalising everything does not change the market price for gas.

Now, of course, if we had removed 50% of our grid to non fossil fuel and moved 50% of home heating to the same, the cost of gas would be a much smaller irritant and our energy security would have been much greater.

But some think that is unreasonable.

Those blocking the move to Nuclear and renewable own this cost rise. Not those trying to provide a service with fossil fuels.

The numbers blocking renewables are there, but only small. It's not popular to be anti Green. The numbers blocking nuclear are in places of influence or in the sleb media or both. It's good to be anti nuke.

Those blocking nuclear conflate power generation with nuclear weapons and then go on to tell us how dangerous nuclear is, how deadly gamma rays are, how difficult it is to treat nuclear waste. And it's all done to a backdrop of Los Alamos, Bikini Atoll, Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Chernobyl. It has been going on since before the days of CND and continues to today, and a largely ignorant public readily buys in.

Now get this:
At the beginning of 2021 there were 70 energy suppliers in the UK. Industry sources say there may be as few as 10 left by the end of the year.

8n France there is one energy supplier.the government. Our power bills have doubled over the last decade entirely due to global warming taxes.

Nobody escapes.
