Yep agree with the Geothermal to an extent. However I managed to get hold of a professor who lectured in the subject when I worked at UOL. He mentioned quite a few things which reduce the benefit, although nothing which could not be worked around over time.

Water is the big one we are not doing and they simply won't do it. Perhaps that will change over time when they realise that they have painted themselves into a corner.

As for Nuclear, we're not doing what we could. 4x Hinckley Point C and we could well exceed our current Nuclear output. The design is far larger in terms of power output.

My take is they won't get their act together until their nose is hard on the grindstone. We are a long way from that yet.

Just bumping this because there are rumours in the press that the government is due to introduce a new tax on gas to nudge us towards electric.
That'll go down well.

Not quite a cash grab as such. They are moving the environmental taxes from electric to Gas. Here in France these environmental taxes are some 40% of my electric bill and I use wood to heat the home, although still electric to heat the water until my pellet burner is installed.

If it were not for the current gas price crisis, it would simply be a realignment of taxes to promote the desired effect. Given the current gas price issue, it may be delayed a bit.

40GW of Wind and a further 10.8GW of Nuclear if they do what they have planned. Solar is in there too but not a core player.

The National Grid plan is to be a net electricity exporter to the tune of 100TWh per year by 2050. For which we'll need to build infrastructure. Which is in their proposal.

Yes we don't have the power today. No, we don't need it today. We will need it all 29 years from now.
