Talking about the news

Postby cromwell » 01 Dec 2021, 16:28

After many months of avoiding the tv news, I have watched a few bulletins this week.
Blimey O'Riley; all I can say is that it's a wonder that 99% of the country hasn't topped themselves.
I have never witnessed such negativity, they seem to positively relish the mere possibility of bad news.
If there is one sure fire way of lifting your mood, it has to be to stop watching this gloom fest.

I feel the same Cromwell. I always used to turn to the news as soon as I switched on the television. I liked Sky news at 10, followed by the press preview. I just avoid turning on the news now as I can't be bothered with all the depressing news. Even the sight of Boris' wayward hair seems to rile me up. I am sticking to the Christmas movies even though I have seen them all before.

There is a lot of news whichis never mentioned.
Too much talking about Vaccination and wearig masks. This is not news. .
There was a long tirade showinga long queue going into the trial in America.
Should have no more than 30 seconds on any one subject including interviews.

Why do the BBC have a very long "Jingle" before the announcer appears. There is no need for it. Just give the news.

Long Loooong time since I watched a live news broadcast.

I get my news on what I am interested in and I use the Google News portal for day to day stuff and a bunch of highly specialised sites for other stuff.

The Fear Fest I leave strictly alone.

Here's another who just clicks through the news on the way to something else. I have not sat through a full bulletin for years.

The 24 hr channels did it for me. Repeat after repeat with so much padding from experts saying not much more than the headlines and then come the analyses and explainers. Those last two words have changed meaning since I was at school when they would have been called opinions and suppositions.

I was struck by the amount of opinion that was given as fact.

Mind you you're only having to deal with Boris every now and then. Sturgeon had been doing the Sturgeon show on TV every day, also known as the covid briefing. She has done another one today.

Some people really liked it. Others totally hated it. Mostly split down party lines. But it was a case of the government rabbiting on about the same thing ad nauseum, just like the press and the media.

It is clear the press and the media want and need, this to go on as long as possible. Before they have to start working for a living again.

The BBC 6 o'clock news is the only one we watch together for the full half hour. Let's just say my participation is interactive ....

Usually my blood pressure is so high by the end of it, I have to go have a soothing cuppa tea to calm down. One more than one occasion recently, I've walked out and left Mrs O to it.
Doing the dishes in the kitchen can be quite therapeutic ....
