It's not often I praise him but I am this time.

Since Storm Arwen, several remote (and not so remote!) places in this area were cut off, no electricity as the power lines were either blown over or fallen trees broke them, hence some poor souls have been without power for a week Tom's bosses have asked for any volunteers to help out over the weekend to deliver food parcels to these places, mostly in the west of the county, remote places like Wearhead, Stanhope etc, so he has put his hand up. He's going to be delivering all day tomorrow - this is the state of emergency you may have heard about on the news.

He's not alone, others in his team are also volunteering. I think it's great - the true spirit of Christmas

Gal saw it on our news this week and said on here
You just can't imagine being with our power in this day and age
Poor people no electric so no cooking washer got water or mobile
That why I always have a gas cooker and keep an old land line phone in the draw

I posted a few days ago Gal, about a local couple who booked a cottage in Bamburgh. Trees were uprooted on Bamburgh village green and the cottage chimney stack was blown down.

You can imagine what it must be like to be without power for that long can you?

On our local news they have been interviewing those who have been in that predicament, it's heart breaking. I panic when we have a minute's outage, to be without in this weather is nothing short of outrageous.

It has been mentioned that the 'state of emergency' would have been declared far more quickly if it was further south.....or even....London!

The geography of it is hindering all efforts to get the power back however. I have loads of praise for all Northern Power employees, the weather is another problem as it has been so cold and we've had snow. Perfect storm, indeed.
