Terrible!!Terrible!! It shows the state the world is in.. I cannot understand or believe that these murderers are given instructions on the web.. Are there no restrictions on the computer that has turned out to be a machine of abomination.
There is no joy in the world.. Today we have the funeral of Margaret Thatcher, trouble makers mostly teenagers, probably the majority on drugs and benefits apart from a few anarchists who "Love The Power" who have jobs in schools can you believe teaching impressionable and troubled youngsters they should be fired...
When I lived in Iraq a country where I made a number of valued friends one saw murderers hung from lampposts, "maybe we should make a few examples here by Bringing back the Death Penalty"
As for the rhetoric from the anti Thatcher mob, and the bilge spurting from the fat cat Unionists mouth's it shows their lack of intelligence We only have to look at Prescott to see the quality of leaders.., We have Harman's old man who is keeping very quiet since becoming an MP, he knows which side his bread is buttered... Praying all goes well for Baroness Thatcher's funeral today. RIP Maggie.

The remains of the devices being shown on the news sites make them look a bit "Heath Robinson" and nothing like those one would expect from a 'professional' terrorist. And looking at the explosions they are uni-directional - as though the lids blew off - which is probably not what was intended. Had they gone off like 'bombs' the devastation would have been much greater.

My bet, at the moment, is that the whole thing will be shown to be from some home-grown disaffection.

I'm inclined to agree WM - if for no other reason that most 'organisations' by now would have made it known it was them.

I've avoided trying to reply as I simply didn't have time. This is yet another horrific event. Something that happens regularly in countries where people don't have true representation or where religious extremism breaks out into open warfare.

However in the majority of the 1st world, we prefer to resolve our issues at the ballot box. Religion does not hold such a grip on our lives (normally) and there is representation and very little true poverty. These three are the breeding grounds of extremists and terrorists. Also, despite many reams of press to the contrary, our security and police services are actually quite effective in heading off this kind of crime.

It seems the thousands of video clips, photographs and security camera footage have unearthed a suspect, if not an arrest, for the bombing. I expect that if they have a clear enough picture they will actually catch this person and then try and work through to that person to get the rest of the team who committed this act.

Whether it's Islamic from outside, Islamic from inside or simply some hate organisation endemic to the US itself (there are more than enough of those), is irrelevant right now. That will become more important later when they try to work out how this could happen and how to avoid it in the future. Whichever one of the three it is, will determine the actions which are taken.

However, even that, right now, is not uppermost in my mind. My thoughts and wishes go out to the families of the injured and the dead and the injured themselves. Hopefully the deaths are over and the healing can begin.

I think it is terrible that this sort of thing can happen.

No doubt this is an act of terrorism by some group of people who, for some reason, feel they must
inflict these terible deeds on American citizens.

I often think that perhaps the USA should try to identify the reason why they are hated so strongly.
- Is it perhaps because they are too fond of poking their noses into the affairs of other countries?

There must be a reason.

Well if you include the Romans and Ghengis Khan, England/the UK has poked it's nose into more countries affairs than any other.

It's just easier to export that form of terrorism now. Russia has a similar issue with it's "stan" states and the Chechens.

I'd say it is the way that the US pokes it's nose in, rather than the fact that they do it at all.

However there are enough tensions in the US without having to look outside. Plus they have more than their fair share of nut jobs and freer access to weapons and weapons grade materials. Witness that the Senate has just narrowly (again), blocked gun control laws designed to try and stop massacres of innocent citizens by complete whack jobs.

I'm not sure that the US can do much of anything to resolve these issues. If they were not hated for intervening, they would be hated for NOT intervening. Plus they "have" and they would be hated for that too. Such is our world. If Roman society had our technology, they would rule supreme. They had no issue with dealing with terrorism. If some country wanted to raise war with them they would invade, raze the entire country to the ground, kill the population or make them slaves and then sow the ground with salt to make it impossible to live there for hundreds of years.

Job done! No social conscience unless, of course, you were a Roman......

The descriptions of the bombs so far is that they were pressure cookers filled with tacks, ball bearings, shards of metal and black powder detonated using electronic times. One was stood on its base when it went off so most of the blast and shrapnel went upwards. The other appears to have been on its side and that is why there are so many lower limb injuries.

What is a bit odd is that there is already a leaning in the media towards Islamists due to an ancient al-Q post about making this kind of bomb. No mention of the Anarchist's Cookbook, where a similar 'recipe' can be found. There is also a very definite distancing of the Boston bombs from the ricin poisoned letters sent to Obama and Senator Walker this week, and certainly no mention of any home-grown organisations. That might be being done on purpose.

We used to make our own fireworks in the mid-60s - bangers! The information for rudimentary black powder was in our school chemistry books. The ingredients were readily available in our kitchens and garden sheds if mum and dad were keen gardeners.

It may yet turn out to be correct. However scapegoat politics, policing and general living is so much easier isn't it?

Looks like they've apprehended one. Judging by the photos released - both young, white Americans.
