On-screen QR codes.

You know, those squares filed with dotted patterns.

Sky news now flashes them up randomly so that you can see.... the weather, news from Ukraine, PMQs, coronavirus - on your phone! Erm, those are what I want to see.... that's why I am watching the news on the TV.

The website is even worse. The images for the articles zoom in and out - whooawhooa - as you hover over them, and many have multi-coloured triangles and other geometric shapes obscuring the view and adding nothing.

I hope this is not the future for other services.

I’ve not seen the on screen ones yet.

I do use them for labelless Amazon returns, just get the post office to scan the QR code and the address label is printed. It takes the post office an age to actually scan them though. Zoom in, zoom out, angle your phone that way, no try the other way…It’s all a bit of a faff.

That’s what our season tickets are too. QR codes on our phones.

I am not against QR codes... I do use them because they are useful. I am not a dinosaur, and they have their place, but...

Try Sky News "The papers". You are watching the paper reviews and the QR code invites you you to go to the website to see... the papers' review only without the talking heads...

Not sure about anyone else but I cannot watch one version on TV and one on a website at the same time.

They can be really useful. I went to Boots last week, to ask for some LFTs, only to see a poster saying I would need to get a code to obtain them. Either I could go to the website, fill in the form, etc.....etc, or scan the QR to get a code. As Ally said, bish bash bosh - job done. It took 30 seconds.

Goodness, my post was not about QR codes, per se. Of course they are useful when used properly as they carry much more information and can do more things than a barcode.

I was talking about Sky's use of them; usage that basically achieves nothing apart from taking up screen acreage.

I'm very pleased to retain my title of the only person on this forum never to have used one . Can't be bothered to, never needed to - I live a simple life!

Nearest I've come, I suppose, was the lateral flow test ordering, but I downloaded and printed off a copy of the code to use at the pharmacy - and when I handed the sheet over, they didn't even bother to scan it, they merely wrote out the 16 character code (which was underneath the QR thingy) on a sheet of paper on the counter. The old ways are best!

I have never used one. I do not have Sky or any of the other subsciption TV.
I do order prescription on line using an ID number and a password.

Have managed to get Whatsapp on my phone to talk to my grand-daughter. At Argos today, I insitedf in putting my pin number in
after inserting the card. Assistant confused because i didn't just swipe my card across the top of the card reader.

I kep saying I have just learnt how to sharpen my quill pen!!
