Holiday lets and cleaning

Once upon a time you could arrive about 3 and leave about 10. Not anymore, now it seems you cant arrive before 5 and you have to be out by 9. Apparently this is to allow for enhanced cleaning.

Once upon a time I used to strip the beds, and put the towels and bedding in the bath. I used to wipe down everywhere, run the hoover round and put the dishwasher on.

That was once upon a time. Now they want a whole day of my holiday to clean, they can get on with it

I can understand your pain MM.

When we stayed in Fuzeta, we were allowed in by 3.00 and it was a 12.00 check-out.

Next door can, somehow, clean three bed, two bath holiday let in an hour

We're in Keswick now, advised to arrive after 5pm and vacate by 9.30 next week. We got here around 1.30 yesterday and once we'd found the bungalow, we decided to check it out - it was clear it had been cleaned and prepped for us so we 'moved in'.

It is frustrating that they want you to arrive so late in the day, we usually leave home around 10 so arrive at 12.30 or so, if we then have to wait about until 5 in the rain, that's not good. I will still strip the bed (no towels provided here) and clean round on the Thursday night but that's it.

Thats a really good idea Gal. I think we will find the cottage and if its ready we will move in, after all we have paid for it havent we?

It was lovely and clean I have to admit, but so it should be in 8 hours.

Jan obviously I would rather they had time to clean it, but how come pre covid, they could do it in 5 and and now it takes 8 hours? If anything they never seem as clean as the wipes make everything sticky

Those timings are inconvenient Shell, we've had the same down in Devon but then we prefer to get away early so the 9am is ok, but 4pm check-in can be awkward. As to cleaning I do strip the beds and put the towels in the bath or shower, and wipe out the fridge, worktop etc. I agree about wipes, and the sticky residue Your cottage looks lovely too, I quite fancy that kitchen!

Yes I used to do all that but I refuse to now, 8 hours is more than enough time to clean.

MM, I'm an ex hotel trained housekeeper so I know how it should be done and how it can be done.

When you clean for a holiday let, it's slightly different, as a friend said, the knives, forks, inside everything really should be done.

She does it, after every visitor, with her husband.-

We've watched next door wave goodbye to guests at 2.00 and the next lot arrive at 4.00.

Rock and a hard place, and a double-edged sword.

My sister from another family lives near Gargrave in the Dales. A lot of the "cottages" would have fallen into disrepair had they not been revamped as lettings, and they are miles apart. Farming technology removed many of the jobs and now Covid H&S rules make it harder to meet standards.

My guess is that once Covid "goes away", combined with complaints from renters, things get back to more normal timings. Till then it will be tough.
