The PM is not the government but s/he does appoint the members (Cabinet) of it, and his / her selection as leader is absolutely the fault of, in this case, the Conservative party.

I absolutely do like what is going on, it shows the Toxics for who they really are.

The PM forms the government then appoints the ministers. We cam be without ministers but no PM, no government. It is why there is a deputy PM and why the PM remains on after resignation.

Only the PM or the Queen can change who is PM and the Queen must accept before a PM is appointed.

Where do you get this nonsense from?

If there were no ministers we would have a dictatorship, but even dictators need department heads (Ministers) as no one person can run everything. Some cannot run things even with 23 (sycophantic) ministers, as we have just seen. Also, for a short time we had government by cabinet when Johnson was incapacitated in intensive care and unable to carry out his duties.

The PM cannot decide who the next PM will be. They can resign or be replaced as the leader of their party, but they cannot choose their successor. That is down to the Privy Council who advise the Queen who it c/should be. She cannot just walk in and say "Sharon's the next PM." The convention is that the leader of the largest party in the Commons becomes PM... if they can form a government.

Blair always said that Brown would take over when he retired, but even then Brown had to be elected as leader of Labour in order to become PM, he couldn't just walk into the job.

I didn't say all of them, just some. I just wasn't specific. However if we lose the PM then s/he must be replaced. Immediately. Either with a deputy or a newly appointed person.

And then s/he must appoint a government, and a cabinet of Ministers to govern. So you were talking erm...

I guess it's a point of view. Remember "Maggie and the vegetables"?

On swift review of the Daily Express on-line, it appears that 'thousands of Tory Party members' have petitioned to have Boris Johnson's name on the ballot paper as a third candidate, as the membership did not vote him out of office. I should image Boris has had quite enough of swatting oncoming missiles from all directions and will be off to a far easier life making his fortune as an after dinner speaker or writing his memoirs.

If it were up to Tory party members, they would vote for Boris again.

During Mrs S paroxysms of glee when he resigned, I did mention that he would be off to make his millions on the speaking circuit. Somehow it sucked all the joy out of the moment for her....

Mordaunt is out, Truss and Sunak.

I guess Truss it is then. The MP's may like Stabber Sunak but the rank and file Tories are not so enamoured.

I thought Boris Johnson was on form during PMQ's today. I particularly liked his parting shot which was 'keep an eye on the road ahead but don't forget to look in the rear mirror'. He got off to an unfortunate start as PM with COVID, as well as his own ill-health, which undoubtedly held him back, but in the end he only had himself to blame for his demise. Perhaps they don't teach pupils at Eton that if you make a mistake it is far better to own up straight away and apologise. That was all he had to do and he possibly may have been forgiven. They pulled the rug from under him but it didn't stop them clapping him out today - apart from Theresa May that is.
