Chinese restaurant

We were having a meal at a Chinese restaurant last night when all the lights went out.
Sitting there in the darkness we were surprised when one of the waiters asked the patrons to start applauding, but we all obliged and started clapping.
All of a sudden the lights came back on.
Baffled, we asked the waiter what had happened.
"Old Chinese saying" he said, "many hands make lights work...."
