That is the forecast from Ofgem.

If it comes true then electricity supplies are also at risk because about 45% of electricity is generated from gas. What a shame the government shut down the Rough storage facility, and others, eh?

It is the big users in industry that will lose out first, but there are no guarantees that homes will not be hit.

I have a camping stove to do some cooking and three solar charged lamps for lighting so should be OK, but it might be wise for some of us to stock up on tea light candles and maybe get a tea light hot tray as well.

Today National Grid issued its report scenarios.

1. Everything could be as normal with enough energy to provide Britain with similar levels of electricity to previous winters.

2. Britain not being able to import electricity from Europe and this could lead to shortages. Coal might have to be used more.

3. A scenario in which the energy crisis in Europe escalates resulting in not enough gas being available in Britain. In that event, distributors would be forced to cut off electricity to homes and firms for up to three hours during the day.

2. and 3. might not happen, but do not put all your dosh on 1.

Cromwell, get tea lights and one of those plate warmer things you see in Indian restaurants. You can cook a simple meal - beans, bacon and egg - or heat tins of soups, chilli etc, on them.

My guess is that power cuts won't happen.

It will be interesting if they do though. There weren't many jam packed fridge freezers in the 70's, but there are now. MrsC's family didn't even have a fridge.
We lived in a pit village and even if the lights went out the coal fire ket you warm. Can't do that now.

Speaking of which we've been to get some eggs today. The farm is down a track alongside a railway embankment. in the summer they felled a lot of tres on the embankment and there is literally tons of wood just left there, lying around. Wasteful.

Oh geez!! We’re in the process of re-jigging our living room, which would involve getting rid of our wall-mounted electric fire, as we only ever use the flame effect on it, and the new corner sofa will be too close to it. Maybe we should think again as it’s our only heat apart from the CH
