Looking at new tv'0s

Any thoughts?

I've been looking on line and have no idea about the difference between a smart one, an oled one and the other one, which I can't remember

Please bear in mind that we are completely untechy, have rubbish internet, so don't need that bit and we're on satellite

We really need one - gurt un - for the lounge and one about 30 inch for the bedroom. Have looked at Radio Popular, down in the Algarve and Worten, in Castro Verde, but for the latter, we'd need to order on line, which I'm rather loathe to do.

So, smart, oled thing or the other one?

OLED is incredibly high spec picture quality - but expensive
Smart - its connected to Wifi and has ability to play netflix / disney channel / you tube - some of those you'll need subscription for, but for all you'll need decent Wifi

I have a Sony Bravia - it's a smart TV (think all TV's are smart these days though, no?). Nothing special in the way of OLED but still fab picture quality and I'd highly recommend it

The kiddlywinks laughed at us, not having any internt on the phone and only having a lappy, but then they're super techy.

Looking at various web sites I like either a Hisense A7GQT selling at £399.00 or the LG UQ80 selling at £499.
They both get good reviews.

Will go to a local shop which sells TVs to have a look at them before making a decision later this year.

Like I said yesterday mine is a jvc 42 inch from Currys
£249 from Currys Jonathan got it and brought it over
I paid him and he connected it to the internet then my neighbour connected it to,ariel and stuff I don't use Netflix and stuff just normal channels it's a lovely tv tho so good luck in not technically minded

We’ve got a 55” LG in the living room, we’ve been really pleased with it (except when it keeps showing boring YouTube car restoration videos but that’s a fault with the person holding the remote ).

The one in the kitchen is a 32” JVC. I’m not keen on it but I think that might be more to do with the fact that the signal is so poor in there, it freezes on the channel guide after you’ve started scrolling down through it so I end up switching it on and just watching BBC1.

So, Jan, you really do not really need a smart TV, which is unfortunate, because they all are now, as Ria says. OLED is probably not needed, certainly not for the bedroom, nor is 4K Ultra HD.

I would visit a showroom with many screens and have a play. Tell the sales expert "exactly" what you want, what system you have at home - especially the Internet - and what you tend to watch regularly. Then go away and have a think. Talk to friends and neighbours who might have the same or similar TV provider system to what you have and pick their brains. You might also want to think about what your service provider might be offering for the future. Systems are being upgraded all the time

The old days of plugging in to the mains and an aerial socket are long gone. I find that review sites tend to focus on the bells and whistles when all I want is a decent picture and sound. Mine is a 32" Samsung and it does the job - no more, no less.

Jan gone are the days you could walk into asda and just buy a tv like I have done in the past

If you watch bluray discs then 4k UHD is a possibility.

BBC is starting to broadcast in 4k UHD for some events and iplayer has UHD capability now.

UHD on the Internet needs a very fast link, 40mbs or more. So if you have a slow connection that doesn't help.

YouTube also has UHD now. Again fast Internet is a must.

My rule of thumb is don't pay for what you don't need. I don't need the smart TV stuff because I won't use it. I keep my TV's for a decade or more and software support for so called "smart" TV's tends to end about the 5 year mark. It is much easier to use a FireTV for the "smart" stuff, they cost around £45 and can be changed as required.

That being said, anyone buying a FHD (less than 4k UHD), is buying 15 year old display technology. All advances in screens are coming in 4k, not FHD, so if you can get a decent 4k one close to the price of the older FHD and the quality is better, why not? At. Least a 4k Bluray will be stunning.

These decisions alway tend towards personal preference but would you buy a really mint Ford anglia if a new Focus was £200 more??

I bought a 60" Samsung with £500 off in an Amazon deal, it was not the preferred siz(55 or 65) and it runs an older "smart" software. But the screen is good and when watching TV the picture is larger than on those optimised for Movies.

As advised, go to a shop, look, ask questions, look for a decent deal.

Always worth back checking the models on the Internet. This is how you find out which Chinese companies have been gobbling up mainstream companies and using their brand to punt their Chinese products.

We have meo as our main provider and a rogue one for the English channels. We really have a rubbish wifi, so whatever we have, there is no need to stream or anything like that. We're really not into tv that much, although like the sports, but we get better sport on meo than on English We could get another suppçier for the sport, but again, normally only watch the footie.

We've talked to various friends and they all have a different opinion, but then as we're so spread out here, we all have a different supply. Our neighbours, David and Rita, down the bottom of the drive have the same as us, the previous owners did too.

We'll go down to the Algarve and have a look around.
