If Boris Johnson gets back in - why did they get rid of him in the first place? That looks beyond daft.
If Sunak wins they know that he only wins because the members are being sidelined. Some of the older conservative members aren't on line and will be excluded from the vote.
Sunak lost the last leadership vote to Truss; but the Tory MP's didn't like the result so now they want another vote to get the right result? That looks well.
Penny Mordaunt, the person who said "A trans woman is a woman"? And who appears to have no hard and fast principle whatsoever?

If Johnson gets back in some Tory MP's have threatened to join the Labour party - this is how stupid and nasty this has become.

I just read up the repeal of the fixed term parliaments act. It is not just the party elections which have changed in our democracy.

The act repealing our fixed term parliaments and reinstating full power of the Crown to prorogue parliament has also removed the ability of the courts to rule on it. Had this been in place when Boris too over, he could have ignored the courts.

I suspect that more legislation will now become absolute and remove the ability of so called "concerned" citizens to go to the courts and try to overrule parliament.

Having reinstated the power to call an election I would expect that whoever takes over will do a lot of very short term fiddling then go for a snap election once people are a lot more settled.

I still think they'll lose, but it does change who is chosen. Sunak is a numbers person. For the Tories to have a cat in hells chance of winning an election they need a people person.

The prime objectives for Tory MPs should be to find someone who is competent and trustworthy. Of the three names currently being touted two do not fit that bill and they might only apply to one of them: maybe.

Yes but competent at what? Finance is only one part of the job. A PM needs to be competent at so many things and also be charismatic enough to convince the people that they could be trusted with another term.

The opportunity for an own goal remains as wide as ever.
