Very disappointing, although it was probably naive of me to hope for better :?

Scraping the barrel more vigorously does not bring back the cream of the crop.

Sadly.

The arrogance of Sunak's supports ("Adults in the room") isn't nice. Let by that man Andrew mitchell MP.
The people elected a party led by Johnson; Conservative members elected Truss, but nobody voted for Sunak. It's not good enough.

Apparently Boris had over 100 supporters but he decided not to run. I can see why as it would just have been more of the same but that was his decision. I do think Boris was hounded out of office but many of his wounds were self-inflicted so he made it easy for those who wanted him out.

I don't want a general election at the moment and if Rishi Sunak can get a grip on the economy and drive down inflation he should be given the opportunity to do it as I think the country needs some stability. If he proves to be a third failure then there will be no alternative to a general election with all the uncertainty, time-wasting, and the cost involved.

Perhaps someone advised him that this is a 2 year gig and having him onboard now would reduce his chances of winning the next election.

Resurrection, if he should want it, would come immediately after Sunak had lost the next election. Where Boris would be a contender who had delivered an 80 seat majority to a government which had previously been a minority government.

A big difference to taking it now and then trying to defend losing the next election.

At least that is how I would view it.

The question is do what?

Can he fix the budget? Sure, he can take back everything they give away and tax everyone to the hilt and he'll have the Covid black hole sorted in a decade.

Then again can he fix the looming energy crisis? Sure he can borrow loads of money and give it to people in order to make sure they don't get a mussed hair over energy prices. Then he can tax everyone to death for a decade to pay it all back.

Can he fix inflation? Of course he can't. Neither can the BoE. Who have been raising rates at an unprecedented speed since they were freed but still inflation goes up. Why? Because the vast majority of inflation is imported with the energy we buy and the BoE have absolutely no control over that.

So there you have it. The triple whammy we're facing today. Nobody can fix it but he can certainly walk tall, talk a good story and walk the middle line. Nobody will be happy but by Dec 24 at least things won't be much worse (or better), than they are today. Some of the borrowed money will have depreciated though and can be paid back at a discount....

Starmer? So far as I can tell from his mantra, his actions will be ideologically based and not economically or fiscally. Better job? Depends if you are receiving the money he will be hosing the wall down with. Or paying for it....

The Johnson is now irrelevant. Only 58 MPs declared for him - nowhere near the 102 claimed. Toast.

He is so often AWOL on the American after dinner circuit that the voters in Uxbridge might ditch him at the next election; 51.4 % think he is a waste of rations - serving himself and not them.

If Labour do win in 2024, the earliest because we will not have a GE till then, he will have seven years as a law breaking ex PM and backstabbing back bencher, then what?. Who knows, there could be some talented new kids on the block by then.

Unlikely, but we can hope.
