Should we put the clocks back?

if we are trying to save energy this year, why put the clocks back?

it doesn't make sense. We are all turning on the lights an hour earlier than we would otherwise, so why not just let the clocks be this year?

Err, because we now put the lights on an hour later in the morning? It all evens out over the year.

Yes, but isn't there more energy consumption nationally of an evening than in the morning, WM?
Aren't some energy companies planning to recompense householders for using less energy between the peak times of 16:00 and 19:00, ostensibly to avoid blackouts, or have I got hold of the wrong end of the stick?

We can change the clocks all we like but we cannot change how much light the sun gives us. At some point during the year we are up and about for longer periods when it is dark. Changing the clocks just tempoarily shuffles the problem about.

Didn't they experiment in the '70s with not changing the clocks, but the dark mornings meant children going to school in the dark, and there were more accidents! Or did I dream that - it's entirely possible

The US senate has voted in favour of abolishing the time change; and sticking with summer time (still to be approved by Biden though). Apparently the aviation industry asked for the amendment to not take effect until November next year so they can sort out timetables etc... but one wonders if a large country like the US goes ahead with it; then I expect others will follow?

There was I think a two year experiment Kaz, late 60's early 70's, around there.
There were slightly more accidents in the morning but less in the afternoon, overall there were less accidents.

The government here has been talking about it for the last couple of years. Nothing decided as yet.
