The comments on the Yahoo news website used to be blood curdling. Progressive they were not.

I don't know if Yahoo were taken over but they don't allow comments any more.
And this is how they justify that.

"Our goal is to create a safe and engaging place for users to connect over interests and passions. In order to improve our community experience, we are temporarily suspending article commenting."

It's kind of hard to see how users are going to "connect ver interests and passions" when they aren't allowed to comment!

That one is going to be a real interesting one to watch. Move over Yahoo.

Sky News dropped comments about 18 months ago. There was no real explanation but the suspicion was that too much nonsense was spouted by too many dipsticks going off topic and using bad language. They were too much of a resource hog to moderate.

BBC still has Have Your Say (HYS) but has to be careful about which articles to open up and even then the number of removed comments sometimes makes it a waste of time reading.
