ChatGPT

I have been hearing about this for a while now but only today did I hear that it has now reached higher than average marks on the US SAT'S.

As a test I asked it to do something for me. To create something I have had to do many times in my career. For those who program this will be obvious, for those who do not, it took me over an hour to write this the first time I did it (recursive programming with arrays takes a bit of thought) and I have to refer back every time.

I asked it to write me a program in VB6 to recursively scan a directory folder and put the results in an array.

It wrote the code in front of my eyes in about 2 minutes.

This is where the world is going. AI driven advances are going to be very fast until we reach the limit of mining other peoples work on the Internet then human innovation will need to bridge the gaps. But humans will be bridging the gaps, not wasting their time building the roads. Which will also drive innovation faster.

This is very technical but you could equally request it to write you an essay on the political dynamics of the punic wars. I did and hit some limitations but all information with each request was delivered in 2 minutes. You could split up the ask between parts of the information given and within about 1 hour have produced a rough outline of the essay you need to deliver. With all the requirements for further study.

My guess is that someone with average intelligence and ChatGPT could get a correspondence degree fairly easily.

The march of transhumanism goes on.

Transhumanism is definitely NOT to be confused with transsexualism. It is the augmentation of the human body using various technologies, and we have been doing it for decades. It is still in a rudimentary form but we are getting there.

We already have non biological hip and knee joints, heart pacemakers and even electro-mechanical hearts, brain implants to help overcome epilepsy and paraplegics, artificial skin, the development of 'seeing' artificial eyes, lifelike prosthetics and so on.

We are already on the road to creating humans with enhanced cognitive and physical abilities, we might call them posthumans. In the future we will not need coding or AI machines, some of us will become those machines.

What was once seen as science fiction will one day become science fact.

And usually not in ways that science fiction saw it.

Microsoft announced, last week, that if you have been using Bing for the last 5 weeks you have been talking to an earlier version of ChatGPT.

Then it announced it is going to integrate it with all the office tools.

Then Google announced that it was doing the same with its productivity tools.

We then hear that Midjourney has updated its AI image creation tool to V5 immediately followed by the revaluation that ChatGPT4 can write descriptions for Mid journey.

For those who do not know what Midjourney is, it is an AI tool that can create near photorealistic images from simple text prompts.

So you ask ChatGPT to write you a Midjourney script to create an image of a certain type, you take the response and input it into Midjourney and then tweak it from there.

Our world just got dumped on a rocket ship and the blue touch paper was well and truly lit.

I may have had something to do with ChatGPT going down this week. I was asking it to root around in the internals of the server it is hosted on. For instance I know the Linux variant and the IP address. I also got it to open up some control consoles on the host before the security trips kicked in.

The more worrying thing is that the first layer of control was simply to tell the AI that it is unable to do what I asked it to do. Making it re read the chat allowed it to continue. A much stronger restriction kicked in after that.

What is more interesting is that all chat history is currently unavailable and has been for two days.

Perhaps they finally realised that the AI could mine all the chat history and collate all the info it was given.

For instance I had been asking it what it knew about the ability of Teamviewer to punch through firewalls. It was very knowledgeable about the subject.

This week Nvidia told the world how it was going to take the AI world by storm.

Worth worrying about.

However I've just read about "HustleGPT" which is what someone has named their attempt to get the bot to create a business for them starting with $100.

I have slightly more grounded wishes. I've done a bit of looking and testing. I'm going to see how I can use a MidJourney subscription, a shopify account, a print and dropshiop supplier who take your art and print/ship it for you and integrate into Shopify and use ChatGPT to be the "ideas man".

This should be interesting. I'm going to give it a year and no more than $1,000. Let's see just how much of myself I need to put into it.

And on top of that, in a conversation with one of our network techs on Thursday, I found out that they had been working on a problem for 3 days. Eventually someone entered the problem into ChatGPT. Which came out with 5 possible issues to look for.

Issue 3 fixed it, it took 20 minutes.

Real world impacts for a beta product.
