Better light now

We bought an eternity ring first, as I was still married, although had been separated for years.

Then an engagement ring and a few years later, bought a half moon diamond eternity ring.

I do take them off every now and then, leave them in a glass of coke, give them a scrub with a toothbrush, rinse and put back on.

Grumpy's wedding ring was the same as mine, but although we've had it repaired twice, it's now in bits in a box

He doesn't want another one.

Mrs S and I were extremely poor when we decided to get married so whilst I bought a ruby and diamond cluster engagement ring for her, we had very simple wedding rings in yellow gold. Mine was thin on the edges and often cut my finger.

After about 9 years we replaced the wedding rings and I have a much thicker plain gold band and Mrs S has one with diamonds set in the band around it.

I also bought Mrs S an emerald and diamond eternity ring in a V shape to fit around the engagement ring. Unfortunately with arthritis Mrs S is unable to wear anything but her wedding ring and it's looking like she will have to have that cut off as the knuckles are so swollen. The engagement ring and eternity ring have gone to our daughters.

Money was tight so both our wedding rings, 9carat yellow gold, were as cheap as we could find. Mine had a tree bark effect which has worn off, but luckily they're both thick so still in good condition. Mine never comes off, it would need to be cut off, but E takes his off when he goes for a swim. We didn't bother with getting engaged back then, 50yrs this coming Dec, but E bought me one some years ago, ruby and diamonds.

When we got married we didn’t know if it’d be possible beforehand so didn’t have a ring. We didn’t have internet at the time so I had to make several transatlantic calls to the city clerks office in Manhattan to find out the procedure and it all seemed too easy so we didn’t want to tempt fate by turning up with a wedding ring only to find out that we couldn’t do it.
Because of that we just used a patterned gold dress ring that I always wore on my right hand. The following morning I went for a walk and came across a wholesale jewellers on Broadway where nothing was priced up but sold by weight and I bought a 14 carat wedding band for $32.

I’ve still got it but I’ve gone off gold jewellery and always wear silver so for years I just wore a patterned silver band instead. When we went to New York in 2018 we went to Tiffany’s and John bought me a silver wedding band from there.

I have an engagement ring which we got from the Jewellery Quarter in 1988. It’s got three diamonds in a raised setting, it’s quite unusual and although I don’t wear it I do love it.

Yes, that’s what is on mine and was on Edward’s! Did you buy them in H. Samuel? Mine is beginning to get very slightly worn now.

It was Argos Osc. It's completely smooth now, but in places you can still see where it was textured.
