I have been scammed!!

Postby cruiser2 » 21 Sep 2023, 08:19

Had a text message on my phone to say I was nearly at my limit on my credit card. This was when i as having my second cup of tea after breakfast.

So onto my computer to check my statement. Saw three entries for over £2000.00 and others which I had not made. One as for a piza in Gravesend.
Never been there in my life.
So phoned the creit card company and spoke to a lovely lady who has stoped these payments, cancelled the card and is issueing a new one.

I check my bankand creit card statements regularly and I am glad the credit card company alerted me about me getting near the limit.

May have a stiff whisky tonight. I think I deserve one.

Well done Cruiser.
Doesn't it come to something though, when you have to be constantly watchful against thieves?

It's horrid when that happens - and it happens all too easily
Thank goodness you and your bank reacted as quick as they did

Cruiser, scammed or robbed? I would be asking by who and how.

Good to hear that the CC company was on the ball, but for me I would want a lot more info for future protection. It happens all too often.

I asked about being scammed or robbed because there is a difference.

People who are scammed have usually had some connection to the scammer - often inadvertently or innocently. Think of answering questions on phonce call, pressing 1 or 2 or clicking on links, etc. It's how they get in.

People who are robbed are robbed. This is very often by hacks or harvesting of details from those who take card details for shopping or other commercial activities. Hackers steal our details from them with no input by us whatsoever.

They are the main reasons why I would want to know what happened.

And just like buses...

This evening I got this from an unknown number:

Your delivery has been suspended due to missing street number. Please update: https://blah,blah,rubbish,rubbish.con

Difficult as I am not awaiting any delivery of anything from anywhere. They might as well have just come out and asked for my account details, PIN and long card number.

BTW I checked out the number and it does not exist, the real web address that I have amended does exist. That's where I would have been invited to reveal all my details. I know how to check these things without them knowing... :ugeek:
