There’s a drama being show on BBC soon which is set in that era, it’s been filmed around Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
Two Tone (working title) will tell the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two tone music, which grew from the grass roots of the English cities Coventry and Birmingham in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Those of us who were Mods were brought up on the original Blue Beat, Rock Steady, Ska and Reggae styles. They died, as all genres do, to be replaced by the nonsense that was Disco. Then came the revival and Godsend in the late 70's. I am one of those who will never grow up or grow out of it - 'tis in me blud.

It all started with Jamaicans listening in on the radio to Jazz Blues and R&B from New Orleans as well as Calypso from South America (esp Trinidad and Tobago). The jazz was stripped out and calypso inserted and the fusion of the two began.

"Reggae" and "Ska" are now used interchangeably for most Jamaican music of that time.
