exactly... they've just done that here; a field known to be knee deep in puddles when it rains and they build on it. They spent the first 3 months of the development just pumping water away from the site into an already overflowing stream, resulting in flooding further down - just mad!

Morning all.....almost

Bright and dry, but rain's forecast for later

We were actually up at silly o'clock as I wanted to get a GP appointment for today. They use an online system called Klinic, no point in phoning as the receptionists type what you say into it for triage anyway and at least you're not hanging on the phone for goodness knows how long. Sent it off at 7.30am and finally got a response at 10.30am saying I have a face to face appointment on Monday at 9am. Oh well at least that gives us some time to make arrangements to get me there!!

Afternoon all. It’s sunny and dry for a change.

It’s been an expensive (and messy!) morning. The washing machine stopped mid-cycle and all lights started flashing which points to a fault with the main control board. It doesn’t owe us anything as it’s been used A LOT in the nine years since we bought it so rather than gaff around trying to find someone to repair it I’ve ordered a new one which AO will deliver tomorrow. I’m just glad I have the separate spin dryer now for the clothes which I had to get out of the half full of water drum.

Tom’s on the way to South Wales to see his Nan, he’ll be back tomorrow night. Joe’s just gone into Stafford for a hair cut.

There’s a fella on Facebook who posts drone footage of Stafford and a few weeks ago he posted shots of a new housing estate and there was flood water on two sides of it. It’s in an area which is renowned for flooding.
Our estate slopes upwards away from a part of the A34 which floods and we’re at the very top end of the slope but one of the reasons why that part of the road floods is because of blocked drains. That section is at the bottom of a hill so naturally heavy rain falls down towards it, one of the drains on the hill sunk and rather than doing a proper job of fixing it the council just came along with a metal plate and bolted it over the drain, so of course water just flows right over it now.

Ria, there’s the problem with people installing artificial lawns too.

Our council, before it expanded had two gulley emptying machines. Saw them regularly cleaning the drains in different parts of the town.

Since the town hasexpandedand taken over three small towns, to save money they have scrapped one of the existing vehicles.
So the remaining one now has to do a much bigger area. And this is progress11

I still have water on my back lawn as there is clay underneath the turf whic w as laid several years ago.

I can remember the first time I went to Evesham in the 1960's and saw the wooden marker poles at the side of the road. I found out they
were to tell how deep the water waswhen it flooded.

THere woll be a lot of cars being scrapped. I bet car insurance premiums go up next year. Someone has to pay for all these claims.

I agree ria why build on flood planes there is building developments every where its dreadful so much flooding

Loads of building going on near here on floodplains, so stupid!

A few years ago it was proposed to build a "new town" just south of Selby. The land floods every few years; in fact there's a flood warning on it right now.
