What could this be?

Postby Gal » 06 May 2013, 20:25

I apologise in advance as this is not a particularly pleasant topic but ....

This morning I saw, under Smudge's tail, two tiny yellowish blobs (around the skin of his bottom) which, when he awoke properly, he immediately cleaned himself. I've watched him today, he is behaving perfectly normally, no excessive licking or cleaning, no smell.

I haven't seen it before on any cat we've owned and I wondered if anyone can enlighten me?

Gal, did they look like rice kernels? If yes then it's tape worm eggs.....

could it have been compacted anal glands that he's managed to uncompact himself? Do you know what his poo's have been like recently and also if he has been scooting around on his bum a bit?

As Lozzles says - keep an eye on him and if need be pop him to the vet for a quick check up

Thanks Meri - I was reading abut this last night on t'internet but have not noticed him doing any of those things....no I don't know what his poo is normally like as he goes outside, although Jen cleaned out his litter last week as he was indoors a lot with her working and me being away. He's not eaten a lot this past couple of days but he's playing normally and snoozing in the sun. I will watch him for a few days, thank you xx
