The vet called this morning and as was thought Jasmine has a very over active thyroid. She has been prescribed Vidalta (carbimazole)10mg for 4 weeks the a repeat blood test. I hope I can get the tablet down her every day, as I mustn't crush it Should be fun

Good luck with it Loz.... Does Jasmine like treats? If yes then maybe see if she likes the Webbox treat sticks you can buy? Try some small pieces first without the meds in them and if she happily munches them then it's easy to split a small piece open and mould it around the pill. It sounds daft, but when you buy the sticks give the pack a bit of a feel to make sure you've got nice soft ones as the harder ones have dried out a bit and aren't as pliable. I think it's Lidl that do their own range of the treat sticks as well and they are really good as well and they tend to be a lot softer.

Otherwise Primula soft cheese apparently works quite well with a lot of cats

I wish I did have to chase her, but she is hardly moving now I got the tablet down her after the 3rd attempt, but she is one very sad girl at the moment. I wish I had taken her to the vet earlier as she looks worse today than yesterday. I'll see how she is tomorrow.

I typed this earlier, then deleted because I really don't want to upset anyone, especially you, but along the lines of, I do sometimes wonder whether the wonders of modern medicine are really the best thing?
If an elderly pet is relatively happy, calm, not in distress, should we really be interfering, making them take things, endless vet visits, tests, etc, etc...is it not sometimes just that it's near the end of a natural life, and that the end should maybe be as natural as the rest of it has been?
Whatever happens, am thinking of you and Jasmine and wishing her the very best, whatever that may be

Well, yes and no Di.... I have a few friends who have cats on Vidalta and they are doing really well. It's one tablet a day and all it usually takes once the dosage is establishes is either 3 or 6 monthly blood tests and a vigilant owner to be aware of any changes in the cat (whatever pet). Admittedly it can be a bit hit and miss to get the dosage right to start and that may result in a few more vet visits than normal but after that.... for the sake of one tablet a day? I know I'd happily do that for all my cats - and 14 isn't that old really and Hyper-T can be managed and cats can live a fairly long life on the medication.

Jasmine is no better today. I have just managed to get her second tablet down her, but it was stressful. She wee'd on D who was holding her and she hasn't even got the strength to wash herself. She has had nothing to eat or drink today and she is now just lying on the floor not wanting to move. Very sad to see her like this. I'll call the vet again tomorrow, but I'm beginning to wonder if this is the end
