Update

Postby meriad » 14 Oct 2024, 10:58

Hey all, just thought I’d give a quick update as I haven’t posted in some time. I have spent the past two weeks working my butt off clearing out the office (doing it on my own) and have been coming home absolutely shattered. Yesterday my brother Karl and I drove up in our hired van (Nadine and their son Thomas followed in their car) and we loaded up loads of stuff we were taking in the way of furniture and chairs and monitors. I had posted on a local FB site to see if there were any schools / charities that had use for our stationery, and had a phenomenal response, so all that was packed up as well and is now here in my little home (7 boxes of the stuff), that needs to be sorted and then distributed. I scored a super lovely bluey grey velvet sofa that fits just perfect; so I’m super happy.

There is still quite a bit of the office that needs to be thrown away, vs given away / sold; so that will be the plan for the next few days, and then this weekend I have a company coming in to pick up office chairs and some tables that we have been able to sell, and then the first November weekend I have another company come in who will take everything that is left; they in turn fix and refurbish what can be and distribute on to charities.

As for me…. I can’t go into details, but for various totally understandable reasons my last employed day has been brought forward from 8th December to 7th November, but I will still be paid through to 8th December. The company truly has been great, and they have looked after me well which I am hugely appreciative of, and I know we will be parting on good terms which is great. And bringing the end date forward actually means if I did find a perfect job to start in December, then I would still have some time off for myself in November, something I’m quite looking forward to.

But for now, hopefully now that the bulk of the office clearance that I needed to do has been done, life will return to a more normal routine

Ria, you are very much a star. That's a lot of work, physical work, to get through in such a short time. I really do hope that the schools and charities follow up and collect the stuff you sorted.

I have experience of these clearance people and those who are on the ball do a good job. I hope the company has chosen well.

As for you... I am sort of relieved that you will get the month's break from finishing and to hunt for other jobs. It gives you a bit of time to sort your life out and rest, just don't spend too much time on that sofa.

Sad to hear the job is going Ria. Hard work that clearing but you are doing a good service to the community in organising this.

Good luck with the job search. I have not had to hunt a job for 2.5 years now as my company seems to think they can't find anyone better than me, clearly they are not thinking straight... :D :D

Normally I'm job hunting between 6 months and a year.

Hopefully you get a good rest and then into a new job.
