So two tier has today put ANOTHER 1,000 + criminals back on the streets. Police officers must wonder why they bother to catch them in the first place

So, what is the answer?

The Conservatives promised more than 20,000 extra prison places by the mid 2020s, so about now, but they have not been delivered and will not be until 2030 at the earliest.

This problem has been rising for decades so let us not pretend that it suddenly materialised when Labour came to power just over three months ago.

BTW I think this should be moved to the News board.

But Vic, Cafe is a light-hearted place for a bit of chat and banter. It is not for politics or other contentious stuff, that is why the News board is here, and the release of the prisoners is "news" as it has only just happened / is happening.

What amazed me was a prisoner say they can't work for 3years I think it was

Saundra, I cannot find this anywhere. I cannot find anything to say that early release prisoners are not "allowed" to work under the release rules. Not being able to find work, well that's another matter. It is difficult for them at the best of times, but that's down to society's attitudes rather than rules and regulations. I do not know the answer to that.

And there's the problem. A claim can be made and reported in the media, but is it true? Where was the response from the government or Home Office who should have been asked by the reporter for verification of the claim. No, that never happened, it is all "We have a claim let's run with it" then it gets on (un)social media and has a life of its own. It is irresponsible journalism.

I checked on .gov.uk and the Home Office and can find no such rules.
