Rúben Amorim is apparently taking over. Hadn’t even heard of him until it was mentioned that we’d agreed to pay the release clause.
Nothing much makes sense. From top to bottom. It was said that Ten Hag’s position was precarious all over the Summer yet his contract extension was triggered, so someone at a high level made that decision and as a consequence it’s cost the club a fair whack in paying him off.
Then there’s the odd line ups and strange substitutions, and Ten Hag’s stubbornness in sticking with players who aren’t performing (Dalot and Rashford to name just two).
Overpaying for players that we don’t even need. Let’s look at Mason Mount for instance. Someone decided it was a good idea to pay £60m for him when we could’ve had him on a free the following Summer, and I know I’m not alone in forgetting that he even plays for us, we’ve seen so little of him. He cut his head a month ago and hasn’t been seen since, seems he’s keeping Luke ‘sicknote’ Shaw company in the treatment room. That money could’ve gone towards buying a proven striker who Rasmus Hojlund could learn from but instead all we had was Tony Martial to work with him and he was also a treatment room regular.
On a positive note though, Ten Hag gave us two good days out at Wembley.
Anyway let’s see what the Ruud van Nistelrooy era brings when it starts tonight, however long it lasts. Me and Joe will be on our way when he gets back from work.
