We are UP!

For the chaps here

We are UP!

Postby Workingman » 21 Apr 2025, 20:08

Leeds United are back in the Premier League.

We are already better than many teams in the bottom half of the EPL so we should be OK.

I also hope that Sheff Utd do it as well. To be 20 points clear of 6th place and have to play-off against them is ridiculous. They are even 10 points clear of 4th!

I have this idea. Bottom two in the Prem get relegated, top two in the Champ get promoted. Third bottom and third top have a play-off. Winner either stays in the Prem or the Champ team gets promoted.

No thanks.....but congratulations

Hope you enjoy this poison chalice better than we did. I cant wait to go back to the Champ and play against on the whole, equal teams, and enjoy the game again.

Who do you think you are better than then, West Ham, Man Utd and Spurs I guess?

We knew we weren't better, we went up too soon, and just hoped. But the nice thing for Ipswich is 'everyone was pleased we were up and everyone hoped we would stay' thats a nice situation and now we have to face Norwich again. Mind you I once said I didnt ever want to play Norwich again, that was before I had a list of teams I never wanted to play again LOL

I am very interested to watch the development of these up and down teams next year, see who has learnt, who has spent and who looks like they will be on this yo yo again next year. Hopefully not us, I am happy to spend a year or two in the Champ now

But enjoy and in the words of Mick McCarthy, be careful what you wish for

Shell, given our goal scoring and goal diference records we are probably already at the same level as Brentford and Palace, so a mid-table finish is not beyond us.

Some of the teams below them will improve and some above will sink, but there are no facts.

And if we do come straight back down it is not a disaster. The Champ is way more exciting than the Prem.

We deserve to go up but now comes the difficult bit - recruiting better players to make sure that we stay up.
I'm not as sanguine as you WM, but with good recruitment and a bit of luck, who knows.
And yes, the Championship is much more of a level playing field than the Prem.

I don't know about these financial fair play rules, effectively they seem to discriminate against newly promoted sides whilst Qatar Rovers (aka Man City) go unpunished for their many and various dodgy dealings (allegedly!).

FFP definitely discriminates against recently promoted sides Crommers. That said, I have said a thousand times, I love my team, I dont want 11 expensive strangers, that wouldnt know where Suffolk is let alone Portman Road. I'm old fashioned that way I know. I am glad we are back down whilst we still have some of our League 1/ Championship side on the books. The team that would run through fire for each other

I have been reading some football blogs and all are agreed that the three coming up will go straight back down - it's money you see.

They all forget that Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth, Palace, Forest and, maybe, Fulham, don't have oil rich owners. They just play football.

Errr Forest got a 4 point deduction by breaking FFP rules. They are where they are because they pretty much sold their whole squad to stay up.

Anyway you just enjoy playing football and I hope in your case its enough
