We are thinking HOUSE MOVE THREAD

I remember you saying a while ago that you fancied living near the coast.

We’re thinking of the Burton Upon Trent area. Tom lives on the outskirts so we now spend a lot of time over there and have got to know the area and it seems to have more going for it than where we are.
My sister made the same move around 10 years ago and loves it.

With Joe still at home we have to consider him and his commute, he works in Warwick, but the distance and travel time works out pretty much the same as what he’s doing now.

Moving house is something that's on our mind.
Not seriously, but in the sense of "what if?".
We have been so lucky with our neighbours here. Apart fro the Gits over the road (who don't really affect us much) everyone has been great.
But nothing stays the same forever, does it?
We aren't getting any younger (chance would be a fine thing, lol) and I know Steve next door is thinking of moving. He's done very well out of investing and he's looking around; and you never know who will move in.
Plus the field over the road is slated for development sometime in the next ten years.
We'll see how things go on.

I'm afraid that is so very true, Crommers.
Neighbourhoods can go downhill very fast if just one or two "wrong'uns" move in. That happened to us in Birmingham.

We have been watching our end of the close down here in Gillingham wondering how it could change - an elderly lady in a 4 bed detached died last year; we've all been looking to see what sort of people might move in.
It is a family with one young boy, I think, and a yappy dog. But so far they seem out to be quiet, and out to be friendly, so no complaints. The exchange price was c£500K, so not cheap.

But there are three other very elderly folk around us, two in bungalows like ours, but the other again an elderly lady in a 4 bed detached. What will happen when they pass on?

The house next door to us, another 4 bed detached, is occupied by a computer consultant, teacher wife, and two grown up children - the lad is taking a mechanic's course I think, and is currently "doing up" an old roadster on their driveway, "Bangers and Cash" style. They have at least 4 other vehicles, and inevitably there's some overflow parking outside ours. But you daren't say anything these days, can you?

And "Paul over the road" 's Dad died last year, so he's inherited and we're wondering if he might now get itchy feet.

We've done coming up 9 years now here. We don't want the hassle of having to move again, but you never know.

We’re preparing the house to go on the market. John’s been going round with his paint brushes, tidying up paintwork. He’s definitely more keen on moving than I am and I’ve said I’ll only move if we find the perfect house. There’ll be no compromises. This is something he gets from his Dad, he could never settle in one house for long. By the time John was 10 he’d lived in five houses. His family they lived in a lovely house when I first knew him and I remember being there one day when his Dad came home from work and said he’d seen a house for sale as he drove home and was going to arrange a viewing, their house wasn’t for sale at that point and they didn’t buy the house that Jack had seen but they did buy another (which John always hated living in) because by then he’d decided he wanted to move.

I think I’m finding the thought of moving even more difficult since getting George, now I’m back to dog walking twice daily I love the fact that I’ve only got to walk around the corner for one minute to get to miles of countryside.

Joe needs considering too, with him working in Warwick we don’t want to make his commute difficult. I was in the car with him today so we chatted and he was saying that he reckons he’ll still be home for at least another three or four years. It sounds like he and Jade see a future together but she’s applied to do her Masters next year which would be two years full time if she’s accepted.

Gosh Jo, I know how much.you like where you live! It would have to be somewhere special, wouldn't it? :?

Crommers, you're so right, nothing stays the same, and quite honestly despite my lovely conservatory - which has made a difference - I still see us moving on in a few years. Becky has one of those ISA's that help you on the ladder, and some inheritance, so I can see her moving out in a couple of years. I still fancy more garden, and fewer bedrooms....

I hope all your new neighbours will be pleasant, Ossie. Two of our neighbours have gone recently :? Our immediate NDNs have inherited a nearby bungalow, so have moved out. It's not on sale yet, as they want to decorate. We've always got on so are hoping whoever move in will be ok....The people on the corner to one side of us moved recently, out to the countryside near Newent. We always passed the time of day, their little pug was a friend of Fraggle's :D  The new people have a friendly staffy and seem ok....
