Oxtail - love it or hate it?

Postby meriad » 26 Jan 2014, 14:48

I love it :D . A friend was posting on FB that she had oxtail in the slow cooker and my mouth started watering. Haven't had it in absolute ages so guess what I'll be doing next

yum yum yum

I don't think I have ever had it. Is it a bit fatty?

I don't think it's fatty at all Loz. You can trim off most of the excess fat before you cook it but once cooked it's the most amazingly tender meat ever.

It's a classic winter soup, one of the very best, and more gelatinous than fatty. :D

We have a fair few proprietary cans of Heinz Oxtail Soup in the cupboard, and it goes down a treat in the winter with bread and butter ......

My old Mom used to boil up home-made oxtail soup back when I was a kid, and I loved it, whereas Mrs O can't stand the stuff. Must say, it is strong - and therefore an acquired taste.
