I am not wide enough awake to start reading newspapers or go on my computer.

I can manage to get to the toilet and back and that is enough and then back to sleep.

That covers it..... the trouble is it does not sell newspapers or provide hours of coverage on the 24hr news channels.

Yes, but they still haven't solved the reason why it went off course.

Hopefully some piece of evidence will be found, no matter how small or how seemingly insignificant. An identifiable item of clothing or a seat cushion, anything, would at least give a definite location and put an end to speculation. For now it still remains the case of us, and importantly the victims families, not knowing.

Also, what this does not do is explain the avalanche of conflicting misinformation and b/s peddled since day one of the disappearance. All that those supposedly relevant bits of "evidence" did was spread the search thinner than it would otherwise have been. In the process the families, friends and loved ones were put through an additional hell.

My cynical side also thinks that this is a good excuse, of sorts, to run down a dangerous, time-consuming and expensive search and rescue operation that nobody ever thought had a chance of being successful.

I admire the work done by Inmarsat and our AAIB, it was a world-class investigation carried out in record time, but if the truth had been out there from the start it might never have been necessary.

New news coming in says that a RNZAF Orion P3 plane has spotted debris in a new search area and is on its way back to base.

I believe that these aircraft have HD cameras on board and as they can fly low and slow the captured images will be interesting to see. These will take time to unload and process before being examined, so it could take a while yet. I also imagine that crew members will have multi-megapixel hand-held digital cameras to use and their images will be downloadable in minutes once the plane lands.

The fact that the Australian navy is about to fly a Sea Hawk helicopter to a ship sailing to the area is a positive sign.

I wonder what justification they have for assuming it flew on in a straight line till it ran out of fuel? It seems it must have been flown by somebody most probably the pilot on a suicide mission with the intention that the wreckage would never be found and it could have dived into the sea before fuel ran out and the remains could be almost anywhere within a huge area. I shall be very surprised if it is ever found.
