Transfering from External HD

Postby cruiser2 » 06 Jan 2013, 11:05

I have a Buffalo HD-PCTU3 which I have used to down load files and photos from My Documents. I can view them when I connect the device to my PC.
Having had a problem with my PC I uninstalled the programmes and re-installed them including W7.
I seem to have lost the files which were in "My Documents" and the photos.
How can I transfer all the files which are on the external HD in one easy, simple effort. I know I can do one file at a time but this would be a long and dreary exercise.
Any advice much appreciated.

Cruiser,

In your Win7 PC open My Computer from the Start button and then the 'Computer' button in the RH panel.

When My Computer opens click on Organize and from Layout make sure the Navigation pane is ticked - this will show your computer folders in the LH pane and individual items in each folder in the RH pane. You might already have this done.

Now left click on Desktop under the Favorites Star icon in the LH pane. This will show the items on the Desktop in the RH pane. Place your mouse cursor in a free space in the RH pane and right click. Go to New and click Folder. A new folder will appear on the Desktop highlighted as 'New Folder'. Rename it to something unique, say, MyFiles. Now double click the MyFiles folder and the RH pane will go blank - this is because you have no files in the folder. Hover your cursor over Favorites in the LH pane and right click. Choose 'Add current location to Favorites' and your MyFiles folder will appear in the LH pane.

Plug in your external HD if you have not already done so. Left click on it to show its contents in the RH pane. Left click on a file or folder in the RH pane to highlight it then press the Ctrl and A keys at the same time. All the items on the HD will be highlighted. Left click on any highlight and keeping the mouse button pressed drag the copy icon that pops up to the MyFiles folder in the LH pane and release. The copy process of all files will start..

Done.
