Well it's a good result in the end. Although I don't think that paying £500 for a boiler change, when the boiler was perfectly OK and could have kept working fine for the next 30 years, was necessarily that good a deal.
But it could have been so much worse.

I, on the other hand, have been discussing boilers with Mrs S. We are intending to let rooms and, eventually, possibly the entire first house. As such I've insisted that we replace the wood burning boiler, which we can manage fine, with a pellet burning fan assisted hopper fed replacement. Something I can stack up with 7 days of pellets, has full integrated computer control and I can be sure won't be trashed by a guest who simply can't be bothered to listen.
The price is in the €5,000 to €8,000 range but I will be happy to pay it if I can get what I want.
