A late report of last night

Postby JanB » 05 Aug 2017, 21:20

We were asked to get there at 8.00pm - I hate eating late, Gladys is not a lover of it either

Mitch and us were there at the same time, 8.00pm. So we got some wine and beer and sat outside and waited - and waited - and waited.

Antonia was the first to turn up - at 8.30, then a couple of other people, they got a beer and sat with us. Then Dimas, who had organised it, arrived, and his mum and brother arrived, along with nephew (the mayor, Marcello) at 9.00

The tables were laid out for 12 - there were 19 of us     but that got sorted. Out came the wine and the food.

Bluddy amazing, brilliant, nothing better have I eaten.

We had the normal chips, rice and salad and even that was good, but the rabbit, sorry, hare was just scrummy - we all had seconds or thirds and the javali ( wild boar) was bony but gert lush.

But eating that late is not something I'm good at, shame, as it was so lovey.

And although we wanted to pay Mario and Dimas, they wouldn't let us.

Their treat, along with all the win, madronia, coffee :D

Mario shot and cut up the boar and the hares.

We left at 11.00 and then came home to sit outside for a couple of hours, as it was lovely and cool - 26C

And let the dinner go down ;)

If I was writing about one of our nights it would read: a report of late last night.

Rabbit, hare, wild boar...no way could /would I eat it. :?

Loving chips, rice & salad is still the norm.

Wild boar is very popular here. It's just something I couldn't eat. :P

I couldn't eat hare, same with rabbit, can't help imagining a mouthful of fluff :(
Boar yes, if it was nice, we get wild boar sausages from the farm shop and they're really good :)

Many years ago a friend in Portugal spent his day off (he had his own restaurant) cooking a feast dish for eight of us.
He was from the north and it was a local favourite - seven kinds of tripe :o
I ate a lot of bread that night

Glad you had a lovely evening Jan, hope it's not giving you too much trouble this morning.

Mother used to cook rabbit a lot when I was a child and I loved it, but then there was the big myxomatosis scare and it was off the menu for a long time. I've not been able to eat it since. As for boar, never had it, don't know why but can't face the thought.
