How do we feel about ....

…. chlorinated chicken? :) :? :|

I'm not sure I'd want that for me Sunday roast, despite what that nice man, Mr. Woody Johnson, the American Ambassador, says. :D

I'd try it first before passing judgement?
Especially if someone had free samples. :Hi:

Well, it is not as if the chickens are being injected with chlorine. They are washed in a dilution of 20-50 parts per million of chlorine:water. Chlorine is also in tap water and swimming pools and we do not appear to be so wound up by that.

What concerns me is why the process is used in the first place, and that comes down to animal welfare and therefore costs. The EU has minimum standards for such things as drinkers, feed, litter, ventilation and light. Where the US has minimum standards they are much lower than in the EU and this leads to (potential) problems with Salmonella and Campylobacter.

At least we have the choice from caged hens through to organic - you pays your money...

I'd rather go veggie again! I've done it before.

Frank I agree with your comments wholeheartedly xx

Think about it, Kaz.

We can buy barn raised British chickens, medium, for £3.50 to £4. Free range go for about half as much again.

So how can the Americans produce them, process them and transport them 4,000 miles and then undercut British producers? TBH a chlorine wash is the least of my worries.
