Goods morning - glorious sunny day here, complete contrast to yesterday.
Dropped the car in early for the annual service/MOT and walked back from the garage. We might not get the car back today as they are operating with a skeleton staff and apparently have a few jobs left over from yesterday. Otherwise, Mrs O has put a washing load out on the line and I've been chopping vegetables after yesterday's mammoth shop.
Despite all the notices and announcements, I don't think the local supermarket customers have really got the hang of social distancing yet as it's still a free-for-all once you're inside the store. Waitrose don't help themselves as they could install a one-way system but haven't. Stocks were not brilliant and they had totally run out of the flimsy compostable / reusable plastic bags put out for loose veg. So caught short by that, I had to buy a pack of reusable string bags at an eyewatering cost of £6 which didn't amuse me one bit.
At the checkout, I hung back and this time got told to put my purchases on the conveyor before the previous customer had finished paying - totally contrary to my last visit when I got told off for being too hasty! I remarked on that to the checkout lady, and she just rolled her eyes and said the in-store guidelines seem to change every week!
I paid in that strange commodity known as cash, the first time I've used such a thing for over a month!
I then went to Iceland; as before, a far better shopping experience even if they have virtually nothing to sell! Struggling to find anything worthwhile, this week's Mystery Ossie Surprise Purchase was a large jar of Mrs Ellwood's Pickled Burger Gherkins.
"Well," Mrs O remarked, "at least you didn't bring home a $%£&^^$ cucumber!"
"They didn't have any," I said
Always nasty when you mislay your car keys, Crommers - I know the feeling.
Enjoy your day in the garden, Saundra, they're giving it turning colder on the East Coast towards the end of the week, I think.
Take care all ...
