What is it that is so difficult to understand?

Postby debih » 10 Jan 2021, 17:50

I was driving home from my regular Sunday voluntary thing today and passed our next door neighbours walking up the hill, which means that whatever direction they had come in they had walked through the village (bearing in mind we are a tourist area and the visitors obviously think we are covid clear as they keep coming) so there are generally quite a few people about. They are a young couple, mid 30's, with a 9 year old daughter.

I almost stopped to offer them a lift but decided that I really didn't want 3 people in close contact with me in the car.

I got home to find the local vicar, who had given a covid kit collecting man a lift up the hill as his van wouldn't come up our lane. They were both looking very unhappy and stressed. I asked them who they were looking for (we don't tend to have house names or numbers on our houses up here) and they said my neighbours who must be in as the man was collecting covid tests!! I told them that I had just passed them walking up the hill. The vicar was furious! I have never seen him so cross.

When I went up to my door, I passed theirs and there was a sign stuck to the door saying "Kit collector. Kit in cool box" and a cool box on the doorstep.

What an earth do people not understand about not going out!! If they had really needed some fresh air they could have climbed over the back fence straight into a field that no one would be in - that was what I was doing with the dog when I had to isolate those two weeks. There is no public footpath running through it, it backs on to the moors so no houses around and in the 27 years we have lived here, other than cows, I have never come across anyone up there. But no, they decided to go for a walk which meant going through the village. They had obviously been gone on a long walk as they had a back pack with them.

Mick said he saw them going up the lane yesterday on a walk - again with a back pack.

The kit collection man did say that he would have to report them.

I am furious. What a stupid, stupid thing to do.

So they had a home testing kit delivered meaning that unless they had been referred by an employer or school they must have suspected "something"!

And the governments says:
Home test kits can be delivered to your door so you can test yourself and your family without leaving your home.

I am not really for the 'twitching curtain' regime that Patel suggested, but any of my neighbours doing that would get reported.

Beggars belief, doesn't it :cute: :cute:

We're under curfew from 1.00pm at week-ends at the moment but I could still see cars up and down the track  Trucks I can understand, as farmers still need to move livestock - ours did this afternoon.

Chatting with a friend this morning, around here, the elderly either had no schooling at all or only up until about 11, so most of them can't read or write - even now. We've worked it out that although they can be intelligent enough, they lack common sense. My friends cleaner turned up the other day, even though her husband has the virus, because they need the money, She was sent packing.

Absolutely disgraceful Deb, and so infuriating

I actually got into a row on Facebook with a woman whose son took one of the NHS tests a few days before Christmas, but because the test result hasn't arrived by Christmas Eve he took one of those rapid flow tests the universities were offering to students, with almost instant results. That was negative, so he travelled home on public transport, and was sat around the Christmas table with a mixture of three separate households when his NHS positive result arrived

My argument was that once he had taken the NHS test he was duty bound to wait for that result before going anywhere, but she wouldn't have it :?

Just to add, the rapid flow tests can miss up to 50% of cases :?

Yes, we are being given the rapid flow tests (when they eventually arrive) at work but tbh I’d rather not have it.

They aren’t reliable and could just mean that we are having to take time off and wait for “proper” test results to come back because the rapid test has gone the wrong way.

Over here, the police have spent the weekend clearing people away from various beauty spots around Dublin, all outside their 5km boundary. Here in Howth we’ve had to keep away from the harbour area the last two days, far too many people out and and about, strolling along in groups spread across the path and paying no attention to social distancing. Cases are sky high here and some people just don’t care.

I wish they would here Osc.

Matlock Bath was busy today - mainly with middle aged bikers going for a ride out abs stopping for chips. The police just walked past them.

On the one hand I wish they’d close the fish abs chip shops (we have loads) as that would stop the tourists coming. But then you think, well if fish and chip shops open in other area why shouldn’t they open in tourist areas.

I also wish they’d bring in curfews - but that means supermarkets closing early which then have a knock on effect for key workers that work shifts. I know if our local supermarket was open 7 til 7 everyday I can cancel out shopping on a weekday as I’d be at work!

We have curfews, especially if the district is a high risk area.

Also not allowed to travel to different districts, except for work etc. A friend works in the Algarve and has to have a proper, headed and stamped letter saying that he works and lives in different districts.

I'm allowed to go down to the Algarve, next week, because I have to, for the hospital tests.

Think it may get a lot stricter again, the government are meeting again early next week. Probably means we won't be allowed to out of our district.

I just looked out as there was a fair bit of noise outside and it looks like the people opposite are having their drive done.

The man who lives there was outside talking to a couple of the workmen and they were all standing so close together, not even a metre apart let alone two, and not a mask to be seen.

It’s no wonder infection rates are so high
