Should there be a rise due to the Indian variant hotspots, it would have to be such a huge rise as to be of concern.

The point is all the evidence, so far, points to the vaccine doing its job and these small hotpots not making any appreciable difference to the country as a whole.

IF that should change it will be visible in the numbers.

So far the opposite is true.

There are now 2,323 confirmed cases of the Indian variant of coronavirus in the UK - up from 1,313 last week. Of these, 483 were in Bolton and Blackburn where it is the dominant strain, the health secretary said. Matt Hancock told MPs there were 19 people in hospital with coronavirus in Bolton and eight in Blackburn. The vast majority had been eligible for the vaccine but had not taken it, he said, saying it showed the Indian variant was "not penetrating older, vaccinated groups".

Where is the headline, "Non Ethnic Britons refusing the vaccine and causing hotspots, possibly derailing the unlocking and the economy"??

Well that was never going to be in the headlines was it?

However, we are not daft and we can read between the lines - the message was delivered, but with plausible denial. It's how things have to be done in the modern world.

Now, for saying it, apparently, Hancock is a "slippery" character.

For daring to say that the government has provided vaccines and that those vaccines are protecting people from the Indian variant and that those who refused the vaccine are being infected and run the risk of dying.

I grew up in a country where Hancock was talking sense and those being infected were, at best, idiots and at worse dangerous people who damage lives.

I'm sure the Guardian editors would be unhappy to learn that the only thing I can trust them to report are climate news articles.

Watching the news about the vaccination in Bolton, could not see many Indian people in them.

Slightly Off Key, some of the cars who were driving round London waving flags and shouting were not staying local as they came from Bradford.

Well, Boris went ahead with the May 17th relaxation, as promised and against the wishes of SAGE.
So inevitably, here comes the response.
Screaming headlines about the spread of the Indian variant, SAGE "experts" saying that the June 21st relaxation has to be cancelled, headlines saying that June 21st has "almost zero" chance of going ahead.

Between now and June 21st Johnson is going to be put under immense pressure to cancel.

Why?

There are less than 1,000 people in hospital with covid. the other day in the whole of Wales, Scotland and England only five people died from it.
There are more people dying from falling off ladders, fgs.

All those screaming have been blessed with the situation that just keeps giving. If the situation gets better, they go out of the limelight and the press have to work for a living.

Today I clicked on the columns button and found a very interesting column which is hidden by default. It is active cases per million population.

UK, #111 in the world with 672.
France #16 with 9,495
Germany #59 with 2,394
Portugal #65 with 2,181

We have 45,805 active cases of Covid and 124 which are either serious or critical. Beause of this people are dying for a lack of NHS hospital care due to the fact that we are "protecting the NHS" so that if things go badly they will be able to cope.

The press and the Ex-Spurts are, quite literally, killing thousands of people by denying them treatment.
