No confidence vote today.

The usual phrase is a bomb. But I guess the person who made that prediction dislikes Johnson a bit more than normal. Probably had visions of him melting into a grease spot.

A narrow win then.
We appear to have reached equally with the USA, in that the media will decide who is allowed to be President or PM.

Hilarious!

When Tory MPs (ERG and other numpties) and the media, yes THAT media, went after May they claimed it was necessary and justified - to get (their version of) Brexit done.

Now that the boot is on the other foot it's a Remoaner conspiracy, anti democratic and a media (the same media) witch hunt. Nothing to do with the facts of Johnson being a charlatan, philanderer, liar, law breaker.... and useless.

He might have narrowly won this evening (thanks to his sycophants) yet worse than May, but there are plenty of banana skins in the next few months. He, and the Cons, are two slices of toast - with marmalade. See Paddington and Liz.

Contrast Bunter's performances with those of HRH Elizabeth II, and I am a Republican.

The old lass (God bless you ma'am!) doesn't have to stand for election to her position though; if she'd had to stand against Diana she'd probably have lost.
Well, I guess the rebels will get him out eventually because this certainly won't end here.
Though if they imagine that Jeremy Hunt, the Arnold J. Rimmer of British politics, will lead them to the sunny uplands come the next election, then oh boy are they in for a shock.

211 votes for him and 63 margin. Yes they were looking for an 80 margin as that is their majority. But they'll take 63.

Theresa May won by 83 but she had a minority government. The situations are completely reversed. She couldn't punish MP's for voting against her as she just make the situation worse. Boris can expel 10MP's from the party and still govern successfully. Once one or two are banished to the wilderness, then the others will fall in line.

The most vulnerable MP's to this tactic are Tories in safe Tory seats. They're never going to win a Lib Dem election and they're going to be banished from politics, possibly for the rest of their lives.

This is over for a year. Perhaps we can get back to inflation, economy, trade, energy prices, people who need help and a war in Ukraine?

The press have shot their bolt for now. Partygate is over, there is no further mileage in it. There won't be an election and there can't be a challenge to the PM for another year. In fact this is the most stabilising news we could have got and they can go weave their plans in their little dark holes for the next year. Realising that the time to attack Boris was not now but 9 months before an election. They would have succeeded with MP's worried about their jobs and the press getting the public to dance to their tune.

Hopefully, a year from now, the Ukrainian war will be over. Mostly for the Ukrainians but secondly for the stability it will bring elsewhere.

You won't be seeing a leadership challenge a year from now. My prediction may be wrong but I don't think so.

Imo it won't stop Suff.
The rebels can abstain from backing the government in votes to try and force him out.
They are basically making themselves unelectable.

We shall see. Some of them got away with trashing the government during May's leadership. They will not get the same leeway with Boris.

What they will have to do is select their future candidates with more care.

I predict that deselection is going to be a big thing at the next election. Rule has to be brought back to parliament and if they need to clean house they will.

May won by 83 with a minority government and then had to resign because of the ERG (and other numpties) and the media, yes, that media you now so despise. They all wanted to get their version of Brexit done.

The Johnson now has a narrow win, despite the Remoaners and media, the once loved same media, now despised, when it was on your side.

He, and the Tories, are now two slices of toast with marmalade - see HRH and Paddington.

The Cons need to bring back the likes of Rudd, Grieve, Hammond, Greening etc. and promote Tugendhat, Ellwood and Wallace "One Nation" Tories, to have any chance in the future.

I look forward to Lab/LibDem coalitions and proper PR in the future.

The press didn't need to do May down. She had a unique talent for doing that herself.

That plus a house of commons which was 75% aligned with defeating the will of the people.

It was not until Boris took over and the opposition thought, if they had pushed May to a minority then they were bound to win against the "clown", that the electorate got a chance to make their will known Again.

That message won't be forgotten any time soon.

It was not the press that brought down May but a remoaner parliament with a speaker gone rogue against the will of the people.

Now we will see decisive moves. Johnson was being careful because covid had made the Tory parliamentary party fragile and he was trying to avoid being challenged.

Now he has a free year and when that is up it will be a straight run into election.

A PM with a near 80 seat majority can get a hell of a lot done in a year.

211/650 is not a majority.

Some of the 148 could cross the floor, they won't but they could, they could defy the whips and vote against or they could simply abstain.

Bunter's majority in parliament is guaranteed no more, and what he does have will be reduced in the upcoming by elections. He is hamstrung and so are the people of the UK thanks to the spineless ones in the Tory ranks.
